*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Anyone else's accelerometer stopped working randomly?
I gave the phone a smack and it kicked back in again! Bizarre!

Also, got the LG Quick Cover yesterday and it's not bad, but definitely not worth the full retail cost over others out there.
The lack of LED cutout seemed to be a glaring omission personally, and it would have been fantastic if the front actually magnetised shut to the phone rather than just being a flap.

So I've had my HTC One X for 3 weeks shy of 2yrs now. So it's that wonderful time when I can look at changing my phone.
I'm on Vodafone and paying quite a high monthly charge because of the handset. So my current thought process is to drop to "SIM Only" (They have some nice deals in their sale at the moment) and then purchase the Nexus 5 (Black, 32gb).

I'll be honest, not had the chance to go through the entire thread here. Are there any bad points about the Nexus?
From what I can see it's a great performer, with good battery life, nice to hold and generally a "good egg" in the world of smartphones at the moment.
Any reason not to consider myself one of these?

The battery life isn't amazing to be honest, you really have to have quite fiddle with stuff to get it to last if you're a heavy user.

I find the Hangouts absolutely awful which is the only way to text from standard, downloading the 'Textra' app fixed it in no time at all though.

The camera interface is proper boring and uninspiring but it does do the job.

Overall I do love the phone, the subtle 'laid back' look, and feel in the hand make it really nice.

It is super fast and buttery smooth too and the vanilla android is to the point without the gimmicks of touchwiz etc.

The quality control is absolutely horrendous, also, don't buy one from CPW.
Please explain further, my handset seems fine quality wise, and it's from CPW, which in turn must come directly from Google, where they all come from.

Edit... Really long thread, too long to read. What's the general consensus on the best shell for the handset at the moment? A genuine google bumper shell or something else?

As phones go, the rate of issues, amount of issues and general QC from LG is clearly lacking compared to other companies.

CPW is also one of the worse shops in the world.

Fair enough, I thought you were saying that handsets from CPW were worse in terms of QC.

I'm sure it's already been mentioned in the thread that google/LG have revised the chassis already so you're on the right track in regards to QC I guess.

Yeah, there are known issues with random rebooting, screen issues, yellowing, bezel gaps, camera, microphone, power button, volume button arriving broken and backlight bleed.

I'd give it a while just to see what's happening with the recording/microphone issue first.

It's a very snappy and device though and the display is wonderful if you get one that isn't yellow.

lol

don't listen to the above he said the sky was falling in last week!!

serious OTT

most are more than happy with are Nexus5

The guy asked what the known problems with the phone are?

I didn't mention any percentage chance he would get a duff one. Simple letting him know what to look out for. It's a great device if you get one that works fine and is issue free. How likely that is I can't say as it's literally impossible without some serious market research.

Thanks for the replies.
To be honest if I was purchasing it would be direct via Google Play - as far as I could see CPW were only listing the 16GB version and it was around £30 more expensive than direct from Google - unless CPW were running a sale?
So those that have had issues - are Google good for support? So if you have a Yellow Screen for example are you likely to get a replacement without too much hassle?

Google's returns and customer service is outstanding.

They will allow you to return it however, they will hold your account for the price of the replacement device. They then send the new device out, switch over and return the faulty one. Upon receiving the faulty device the hold on your account will be lifted.

Can one of you guys tell me something :

I noticed in my menu it had the option to download voice data for offline. Would this allow you to tell it to call someone and it ring when you don't have a data connection?

My iphone will not ring anyone if I don't have 3g for it to beam my voice off up into space. This I find damn annoying in the car as I rarely have 3g on the route to/from work. I also find coverage patchy on my drive to Bristol and back.

mine was contract so I don't know about CPW's sim free prices sorry.

In regards to any faults etc I'm happy to say mine is perfect in build quality and performance, the screen doesn't seem to be 'yellowy' either.

Just tried it, you need access to the internet no matter what by the looks of it.

Sure it'll work with 2G though would likely just be slow.

My sister is on her 4th Samsung S4 all of which have had the black screen of death. This has happened to a few friends too.
All companies have their share of faulty units. :)
