Guys make sure to keep both your hands on wheel...

Whitby driver filmed with hands behind head

Mr Newton had argued he was in control of the car but was found guilty of dangerous driving.

He was given a 12-month ban and ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work in the community.
He was also fined £625 and told he must pay a £60 victim surcharge.

Such a hero. Someone should contact Mercedes, apparently Volkswagen beat them in building the first self driving car, way back with the Mk2 Golf.

The punishment is absolutely ridiculous.

1) he was not speeding, so why did this video clip even get "processed" or looked at at all?

2) From what I can see the car was not out of control in the slighest...

3) The road looks straight

4) This is just the judge swinging his weight around

5) If the car was not out of control and no one was hurt, and he did not even cross to the other side of the road, how on EARTH can he be found guilty of "dangerous" driving???

The whole thing is moronic..

Whats next? I get prosecucted for giving the finger to a camera van as I go past just because they have it on tape?

I either signal a masterbatory gesture, or a single digit, does that mean now they will prosecute people for this type of thing other than actual speeding?

This country is becoming like North Korea... Almost wish we hadnt won the 2nd world war now, as we would have probably had Autobahns and cleaner streets and a better manufacturing economy.

It is dangerous driving....there was oncoming traffic and he had no hands on the wheel.

Are you serious?

He was sat with his hands behind his head, you don't think there is anything wrong with that because there was no accident?

I suppose it's fine to drive with your eyes closed too at 120mph down the M1 with a phone in both hands and your feet up on the dash whilst your son steers so long as there is no accident?

You're good value, aren't you? :)

knowing the exact seating position of a mk2 he could have been more than in control with his knees

you can see him following the curves of the road fine so hard to see him as being ''not in control''

don't see the imminent danger at all really...

far worse are the people who sit in slow moving traffic eating/doing makeup/texting/messing with radios . you know... the people who arent even looking at the road ahead

we have all followed someone who hasnt been paying attention and momentarily swerved into the next lane. dont see those sorts getting year bans...

hes controlling where the car is going

so in control

its a near enough straight bit of road and hes directly in between the boundaries of his lane. its bad but its not banned for a year bad

I'm intrigued, what happens when you need to slow down suddenly and change direction with your knees on the steering wheel and your hands folded behind your head?

why would you need to change direction on a straight bit of road ? even if a phantom badger jumps out swerving is often the worst thing to do

i assume his feet are on the pedals rather than on the dashboard therefore braking still happens

most of you who do 100 everywhere or drifting off every roundabout are far more dangerous than this guy IMO

too many IF's in this whole case. if he was swerving about or he crashed then yea do him for dangerous driving. but he didnt

So he can make an accurate and fast reacting correction to his steering with his knees when the ninja badger appears, while simultaneously applying brake pedal pressure which magically doesn't remove one of his knees from the steering wheel as he applies downward pressure? Really?

You say you shouldnt swerve, fine, what happens if the ninja badger appears on the other side of the road and the oncoming driver drifts over to your side of the road?

It'd be (not) funny to see what happened if one of his front tyres blew out. He's driving a car & he got what he deserves for intentionally & blatantly being a moron behind the wheel.

Someone should revoke your driving licence for being so ignorant.
