Just a quick one really guys

Has anyone got one, and what are your experiences? (please say which model)

Looking to get one for the convenience when I don't want to put the oven n, and to drain off some meats...

Have heard they are no good for burgers as without temperature control, they burn outside & are raw inside... Is this right?

Please don't comment unless you have experience or knowledge of this type of product!

Thanks

Spoffle is right above.

My housemate has one and although I haven't used it that much it's a very nice piece of kit for griddling chicken. Stick some spices on chicken thigh fillets and then crush them under the grill. There is no health benefit with the method of cooking but griddled chicken is delicious and you potentially save some time over just using a griddle pan. I'm not sure of the model I'm afraid - it's a massive one with a separate flat heat plate too though.

They're rubbish. I stupidly bought one last year and I've only ever used it for chicken breast and thighs. The breast comes out dry as a bone and the thighs were fine. It cooks quickly due to the heat from both sides.

Nightmare to keep clean, so many cracks and crevices you can't reach.

There's a very good reason you don't see them being used in professional kitchens or Saturday kitchen!

Buy a griddle pan.

N.b. they don't get hot enough to sear properly and there is no temp control as you said which isn't helpful.

I got a Russell Hobbs grill n griddle but upon opening the box the instructions has it down as a George Foreman!

Only used it for Paninis just now so cant comment on its suitability or otherwise for grilling meat.

They're ok for odd things - sausages, burgers etc. I've a little one I was given and use it rarely, but I don't think I'd replace it if it broke. I use my griddle pan much more frequently.

Isn't the health benefit in removing the fat fewer calories? For those that want to lose weight or are on a strict caloric intake diet.

Not denying meat fat is good, I'm a keto-er myself :)

I do use one, only really as a quick way of cooking chicken and other bits.

We've got one and it does me when I just want to walk in from work slap some chicken on it and have dinner ready in 15 minutes with no messing about.
At that point in time I'm not overly fussed if it's cooked to perfection I just want to eat.

Thanks for the replies guys, might just stick to cubing the meat, putting it on skewers and whacking it in the oven over a tray to catch any drips.. seems 50/50...

I got given one last year. I've only used it for toasting sandwiches. It does a good job of that at least.

I have got a family sized ones with removable plates.

It's been great for burgers and steaks. Not really tried it with anything else. Cleaning has been easy because it is wipe clean while still warm, or you can take out the plates to wash.

Lower calories, sure, but lower calories doesn't always equate to healthy when you look at the nutritional content.

For example, there's this gold top milk I like, it's 1 litre and has roughly 800 calories in one bottle, I also like pink lemonade Lucozade, which is 573 calories in a 1 litre bottle.

The lucozade has less calories, but has less nutritional content so it would be better to drink the milk than it would the lucozade.

The same applies here, even though there are more calories, there is more nutritional content which would negate the "healthiness" aspect of lesser calories.

The actual reason why they advertise it as reducing fat is related to the notion that dietary fat = body fat, which is what the general public actually believes, as they have no idea about nutritional at all, even some people actually in to healthiness have no clue either.

Yep, with you on that.

You have it turned up too high then. Chicken breasts come out moist when I use it.

No idea which one you have but mine is kept clean easily. Wipe it down while still warm and its a doddle.

Then get a better one WITH a temperature control. Sounds like you have a cheap version going by the problems stated above.

I remember having one years back, I also remember the food tasted bad with it and difficult to clean. I am not talking about wipe down clean but washed clean.

I want to chuck the whole thing into the sink and scrub it like with a griddle pan.

I got mine out before Christmas for the first time in 2 years. I had a real toasted ham and cheese sandwich need. Other than that I always griddle pan my chicken. In fact I did last night and will again tonight too.

With the above, sponge clean and leave tbh.

Ive cooked all sorts on mine, If you get decent thick burgers it makes fast work of them too. Even ones straight from the freezer cook relatively quick.

only problem with mine is its the old silver/grey one and the new ones seems a lot less bulky

See if you can track down a Cuisinart gr4 - I 've been through three George Foremans before I got this - it knocks the socks off every George Foreman I've had.

I like using the flat plates and the grill folded out for steaks and I can do a full fry up on it :-)
