Hello. Ive just purchased the pc in my sig and only just put it together and must say its running flawlessly. Ive managed to OC the gpu to a decent speed and turned my attention on the cpu now.

Ive clocked it to 4.4ghz changing only a few settings so far which are

multi x44
vcore 1.25
cpu cache/ringbus 1.20
vrin-cpu input volt 1.9

My temps are a little on the hot side for my liking though 92.c 87.c 84.c 81.c after 2 hours of prime95 blend. This is the first time using Z87 chipset so inexperienced when it comes to OC these, my last pc was a 2600k Asus p8Z68 v-pro and had that at 5ghz 24/7

Could anyone help me out with getting a stable 4.2-4.4 the settings in this bios are baffling me and not much info on this board.

What would you call OK temps for this CPU?

Thanks

Prime etc is not indicative of real world everyday use, i would play some bf4 or something for an hour and check what kind of temps you are getting then.

I keep linking this, but it's great.

There are no "Good settings" to use, you must find them out yourself by extensive testing. You can start with reducing some of the volts a bit, and then running stability tests again..

I'd only use prime to check the max. heat, and then test stability using AIDA64 and an array of games.

Your temps are very high, so it sounds like you either have the stock cooler or a bad case? Haswell should NOT be OC'd on the stock cooler at all, it is very inadequate.

Im using the ~Akasa Nero 3 not a bad cooler tbo. I think it was the ****** paste that came with it that caused high temps. ive since used some as5 set to 4.1 1.95v max temp with prime95 was 75.c after 45 mins gaming around 55.c

Saved settings and reverted back to stock until its needed if it ever is for gaming.

I had the same cooler previously, kept my haswell at around 65c for gaming at 4.4ghz @ 1.25v. Prime95 went into the high 80's.

Now, with H100i you can see my volts and OC as below. Gaming temps never go over 60 :) More like 50.

Your board is similar to mine. What are your bios settings for 4.6ghz may be good for me as a template to go by. I can hit 4.5ghz using 1.25v but temps def to high for now may consider the h100i as that was my last cooler

This chip also has a 10-15.c difference one 1 core so when i say my temps was 82.c the other 3 was 69.c 71.c 73.c

The core differences might be due to a bad mount, or you got unlucky.. the haswell's HSF is not soldered, hence why people do delids.

Here are my volts from HWmonitor:
Vcore: 1.295v
Ring voltage: 1.14v
Vid: 2.00v

I run memory at 1.65v just in case as it makes no difference in terms of heat I noticed.

I don't want to reboot now and check the bios ones. That's what I use for 4.6ghz, I find tuning ring voltage helps a lot to receive a good OC without increasing Vcore excessively. My chip is alright though, I don't think most do 4.6 at under 1.3Vcore.

Been at this for ages lol cant get my head around this new chipset and bios, its frustrating me. Would anyone care to help me reach 4-4.2ghz I know i can do it because ive managed to get 4.6ghz 1.41v but the temps was reaching mid 80s prime 3 hours and was stable just too hot dam.

Also i have a set of this RAM

How do i set it at its rated speed. My MoBo is the Gigabyte Z87X-SLI

many thanks
