Hi guys,

got my 4770k and G1 Sniper up and running now, but i need to slap an interim cooler on it while i get the stuff for my waterloop ordered.

Any recommendations for a decent cooler to last me til the end of the month? or possibly a little longer? i dont mind paying upto £70 as i can prob sell it on later.

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO would be a good choice, you'll find it for half of that budget too.

But if you're having your water cooling set up soon, why bother with buying an after market cooling solution at all? Can't you just make do with the stock cooler (I'm assuming you have it) for a month? It's more than fine even for a little OC.

Yeah i just fancied lobbing something decent on for a bit so i could see how far i can push my 4770k, like i say i can always sell it on a bit later or keep it should i need it.

What mickyfinn said.

K2 is one of the top coolers out and £50 is a great price. TS140 is next and also a good price with Matterhorn only a couple degrees warmer.

The k2 is an excellent cooler, but quite large so you need to check for ram clearance and possible obstruction of pci/e slots depending on motherboard. But if your moving to watercooling shortly, id suggest picking up something like a prolimatech megahelims second hand to tide you over. It and the k2 are the two coolers that 8 Pack reccomends according to your specific board/ram combo and how theyll fit.

Whats your overall impressions of the cooler mate? have you had much chance to have a general play with it? it does look rather epic.
Have done some full load burn in runs seating the TIM seating. CPU's as cool as under SA SB-E or 14PE. No scientific data yet but R1 is definitely an impressive cooler in more than just looks.. ;)

Normally $90.00 in America is about £75.00 here. Enthoo Primo for example is $250.000 there and £200.00 here; NH-D14 sells for $82.00 there vs £66.00 here.. Not scientific but a guide. Only time will tell.

Vortez comparison of R1 Ultimate show:

Vortez only monitors room ambient instead of monitoring the temperature of air going into cooler / radiator. This skews their CLC reading to be 5-10c warmer. Not using cooler/radiator intake air temp when testing in a case means CLCs have definite advantage over air coolers because
  • they move more air through case (their fans are additional exhaust from case)
  • they dump all their own heated air outside of case
  • air coolers dump their heated air inside of case
  • raising the case air temperature
  • every degree warmer the air going into cooler/radiator is translates to about a degree warmer the CPU is

jump in to 3:40 for results

I've been running mine for over a month testing with similar results. Fantastic cooler. Was a breeze to mount, looks great, performs better than I hoped and is quiet too! Could ask for more... well not much more.
