Lawful killing of Mark Duggan

Hmm, forget Duggan being a drug dealer.. The Police shot a man for carrying a table leg, and that was judged another 'lawful' killing.

Come on sheeple.

rather a different case to this one

and 'sheeple'... jeeze, people who generally use that term are CT nuts and its probably most fitting for them rather than others

so a guy purchases a gun 30 mins earlier and is off his head on e's, he gets pulled over by armed police and runs while pulling out something from his pocket. The outcome of this is that he gets shot.

Why is this a surprise ending to some people?

On top of that, the officer in question has a split second decision to make. You see someone reaching for something, or holding something, you are going to put two and two together.

If you are going to own/handle a gun, you ought to expect some sort of challenge to that and you must accept the consequences for your actions.

The Police received a report a man was carrying a gun They approached the man and ordered him to lay down his weapon. The man turned towards them, apparently bringing the gun they thought he was carrying to bear on them.

What would you have them do?

I don't think drug dealers deserve to die like that. To me drug dealers are just business men, it is only because of prohibition that leads to it becoming a blackmarket where people can not ask for police protection. He probably had a gun to protect himself as is very common reason to have a gun. If he got pulled over by an unmarked car and thought someone was trying to kill him. Getting out the car with a gun hidden would not be such an unreasonable thing to do. It is only since guns have become illegal that it now such a big deal that even having one in your hand is enough of a justification for the police to kill you.

But again don't realy know enough about what happen to have an opinion.

So what exactly did this guy just buy a gun for? Do you think he was going to use it as a part in some cowboy fancy dress outfit or do you think it was to maybe shoot someone?

I get to see the pretty pictures of what these "business men" with guns do to each other at work. I would take a wild stab in the dark guess he wasn't getting dressed up as a cowboy,

the guy was roaming about with a loaded Gun being a general menace ..im not sure what else there is to say.

Now i have never heard this before. I heard he had a criminal record but i never heard he was banishing the weapon and threatening people. So were the police looking for him specifically at the time then? it was not just some random that they pulled over who they just happen to have dealt with in the past?

he wasn't

yes they were specifically looking for him, yes they received information that he had a gun... (seemingly he was on his way to use that particular gun to avenge the death of one of his buddies)

if a police officer stops someone they know was carrying a gun and they react in any way other than being completely compliant and following all instructions given to them immediately then they're just putting themselves at risk

So you believe he should have been allowed to carry an illegal firearm to protect himself whilst he sold his illegal drugs? :o

No I do not think he should be allowed to carry an illegal firearm. But i think carry a firearm to protect yourself should be legal. But that is a different topic. I would not advise selling illegal drugs but i think that drugs should be legal.

Except, they don't even need to be completely compliant to not be shot. My guess is the guy with the wooden leg, and this Duggan guy were shot prematurely for being a split second too hesitant to not responding to all the yelling, and of course a trigger happy policeman with a gun that he NEVER EVER normally gets to use.

Marksmen with guns on them as well as bullet proof vests, don't you think, they could actually wait 'til' they see a weapon before opening fire. I mean not too much to ask is it.. In either case, no gun was ever pulled on them.. Let assume for a second that they indeed do have weapons? Which they didn't (important FACT there). In the real world, they're going to have to take aim if they have any hope in actually hitting the cop that's shouting at them. Which neither did. That thing you see in movies, as in firing from the hip, almost never hits its target, let alone people protected in bullet proof vests. These people had guns on them. The person with the gun (most likely a rifle vs a handgun or shotgun) on them, is always going to lose the shootout, if they're going to need to take aim against the person who's got them squared away in their targets and finger on the trigger..

This should be NOTHING to do if Duggan was scum or not. This should be if this particular police officer was too itchy to pull the trigger or not.. He clearly was in this case. He should have given Duggan more opportunity to surrender, which he would have no doubt done, once he realised what exactly was going on. He's not going to take on an armed unit with cell phone is he.

That's all I'm trying to say.

So it was like the minority report, where they knew what he was going to do thanks to "intel" and prevented it from happening.

they'd had it confirmed that he'd collected a firearm, he was then en-route to do whatever he was going to do with that firearm... I wonder what a known gang member with previous arrests (not convictions though) for murder and attempted murder would want to do with a firearm? hand it in to the police?

he had a chance to surrender - he knew the police were following him - he even texted his mate to say so... when stopped by armed police officers he could have just done what most people would do and put his hands where they could see them...

not leap out of the cab with a firearm....

what happened after that is unknown - the jury don't believe he had the firearm in his hand at the point that he was shot - one of the expert witnesses says it is possible he was throwing it at the time he was shot but not after he was shot... either way he had a gun in a shoe box in the cab, he jumped out with it - its a pretty dumb thing to do

I dont think he was ever actualy convicted of a serious offence but..

"In the eight years before his death, Duggan was repeatedly arrested over a raft of serious crimes, including murder, attempted murder and a range of firearms offences."

The police had intel he was armed (and he was) so they didnt take any chances and shot him dead. Given his history it's what I would expect the police to do in that situation. If he'd have been more submissive when pulled over he might still be alive but thats moot really.
