Somewhere in the middle.
This game was actually pretty freaky at the time I thought.

Had a brilliant system, where as the the more mentally unstable you became, the more wierd things would happen to you.

Scariest moment is after many hours of playing it, you go into save options.. press to save... and it deletes your save file !

Genius :D

That level as the bloke with the tiny mental stability bar thingy was definitely the best, and some of the things it did were just genius. The best bit was how they'd deliberately break the fourth wall to **** with you. If it had just been random floaty ghosts in the game, I doubt anyone would have been too thrown by it, but sly things like pretending to turn the volume down, or change the channel worked so well.

Bumping this from 2008! Eternal Darkness is still an amazing game - i'm going to be replaying it again. For anyone who has a GC and wants a great game to play, ED is such a thrilling game, really gets your involved.

That the one you start as a Roman soldier? Vaugly remember it but didn't play :(
Mum has a wii, might pick it up.

I loved Eternal Darkness. When I first got it, I completed it 3 times straight inside a weekend just so I could see the "proper" ending. Such an amazing game, I definitely need to go through it again soon. I remember one of the Insanity effects would be where it dropped you into a room with a load of enemies, then throw up a message telling you to reconnect your controller. Genius!

I remember this game.

Rented it from blockbuster. One of the insanity effects was limbs falling off from memory.

Great game.

Good bump :D it's just a shame some of the TV effects aren't quite as convincing when it's not on CRT! I hope the new one (Shadow of the Eternals I think it's called) lives up to the original.

Shadow of the Eternals Delayed Indefinitely "taking a break" man I really hope they finish it. Would love to play it.

ED was just so awesome that you could complete the game 3 different times, with the different stones. Just found my GC so will be running through it again.

Oh lame :( the last time I looked into it was when it was still being kickstarted, really disappointed to hear that's happened. Though I was kinda torn between getting it on PC or Wii U, would have loved to see what use they could make of the gamepad/tablet since they'd have 2 screens to mess with among other things.

A run through is definitely in order for me too :D just need to find a break in my backlog for it to happen...

A sequel was teased on a few different occasions but nothing ever came of it. They could just remake it with updated graphics and I'd buy it again.

Yep enjoyed it, I sold off my entire Gamecube collection early last year, so unfortunately can no longer play.

As someone mentioned above, hope they remake in HD would snap it up.

Best game for the GC, nothing came close.

Timesplitters 2 was my other great memory, however it was multiplatorm

Nah, I wouldn't say it was the best game, the GC had some classics, but Eternal Darkness was definately up there, even if you could see its roots as a '64 title.
