Hi guys, was going to post this in GD but, well it's GD.

Looking for some advice. I got a Parking Charge Notice from a private firm called Parking Eye on NYE. Basically I stayed a few minutes longer than I had originally 'payed and displayed' for and they've stung me with this (IMO) rather excessive fine of £100!

After talking with my Dad and some of the chaps at work, and reading a bit on the net, it looks like I have a couple of options.

Few of the lads told me to ignore it, and that they will send more letters, threatening letters, but eventually go away. And a couple of the guys told me to not pay it on any circumstance and write them a letter, by using the template on this website.

Anyone had any experience or got any advice on this?

P.S This is from a private firm, not the council or police - I'm aware there are different guidelines of how to go about handling them

which company is it? most can be ignored

a few, notably parking eye, may need a more proactive approach

Get over to http://forums.pepipoo.com. They will advise on the correct procedure. With Parking Eye you will likely have to go to a POPLA appeal and you will almost certainly be ruled in favour of.

^this. Whatever you do, don't ignore it as parking eye charges do not tend to go away as easily as charges given by other PPCs. If you give the people on fightback forums all the facts and you're prepared to put the work in, you'll almost certainly be able to win the case.

They've saved me getting on for £1000 in the last couple of years so I can't recommend them enough.

Thanks again, have put a post up. Will let you chaps know the outcome.

I got an unfair charge one.

Basically in a free car park up to two hours, went there at 10:20 for some shopping, left 20mins later. Realised I had forgot something and returned at 1:30 and left 10mins later but their cameras allegedly picked up the first time entering and the last time leaving classing it as an overstay.

I sent a letter and never had a reply or a charge.

If it's Parking Eye I would get on it, they do not give up. Other companies do.

thread reminds me to pay a parking ticket before it doubles in price tomorrow from 30 to 60 pounds.

thank you OP.

Ignore it.

I've had 20 of these myself. All parking eye.

When I moved house they even sent one to my new address thinking that I've never seen the previous letters and how it was illegal not to inform the DVLA immediately.

I ignored that too. I don't get any letters now.

I shall say again, I've had 20. You don't get CCJ's or any other scary things the wording makes out you will get. Grow some balls, its civil not criminal.

Seems like the people who have never experienced ignoring a parking ticket are misguiding the OP into paying. Oh well if you like throwing money away.

This is simply wrong. Parking Eye chase and DO get CCJs against people. Do some research; things changed in 2012.

Scare tactics seem to be working. They probably hire people to post on forums saying they got a CCJ, wouldn't surprise me.

I've had tickets in 2013 too, I've not been court yet. I'll go by my own experience. Do you know how much it takes to bring something to court, a lot more than a poxy ticket costs. Due to bad parking at work I routinely parked on a car park monitored by Parking Eye. I have some alternate parking now but if I had to, I'd park there again tomorrow.

Have you paid one previously Hxc? Cannot bear the thought of someone else getting away with it?

Small claims court is something like £35 isn't it? It might have gone up since I last sued someone though but it can't be that much more.

Can they really justify the £60 charge. It doesn't matter anyway as it never gets that far. Just bs stories from Parking Eye employees or people so clueless to actually contact / pay them.
