Lawful killing of Mark Duggan

So no riots last night but possibly some at the weekend?

If there are then hopefully V53 will be on duty...

Did the mini cab driver give evidence - not seen it mentioned. Surely he would have more insight than some choad hanging out of his council flat window?

His concentration would probably be on the guys with guns that have just stopped it...

Going to put this out there: Good riddance. Police deserve a pat on the back. Had they arrested him he would have no doubt recieved a slap on the wrist and be out now ruining more lives with his drugs and shooting more people with his mates.

EDIT: before I get called racist: I would state that if he was black, white, yellow, pink, blue...the colour of his skin does not matter to me.

A well known criminal gets shot dead having been seen with a gun. Police do their job.

Worlds a better place.
is it ? riots ? increased police hatred ? 'police racism' brought back into the media spotlight ? whats better ?

anyway thats not how the legal system is supposed to work. for a reason!

He is half caste though surely looking at his scummy mother so why do they keep going on about it being a black thing?

Love the "he was scum anyway" type posts. Yea he probably was going by his friends and history....but surely thats for a jury to decide ? Not a trigger happy policeman.

Everyone deserves the right to a fair trial

It would seem you don't respect the decision of the jury in this case, so why would you go on to claim a jury should have decided if he was 'scum'?

The Metropolitan Police Commissioner has praised the "very dignified way" Mark Duggan's family has responded to the inquest conclusion.

On Wednesday, a jury concluded Mr Duggan was lawfully killed when he was shot dead by police in August 2011, sparking riots in many English cities.

Mark Duggan's aunt Carole Duggan said the family will fight the jury's decision "through the courts".

Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said: "They deserve our praise".

Why do they deserve our praise given the verbal abuse that was hurled at the jury?

Didn't the other two want an open verdict? So none of the jurors declared it to be an unlawful killing.

Those 2 couldn't decide - none of them thought the death was unlawful.

No, but unanimity isn't required. In any case, the 20% wanted an open verdict. There was 0% support for unlawful killing which is the verdict everyone complaining seems to want.

Hello Jumpy McJumpersons.

To quote myself

2 of those Jury didn't agree

Never mentioned unlawful did I. Just pointing out 20% of the Jury didn't agree ;) And obviously there is a big difference between 'lawful killing' and 'open verdict'. But of course. We must all agree with what you have to say. Because you are on the internet. And must be right.

It saddens me that some people are so desperate to shift all the blame onto the police. They did their job, and ended up shooting someone who probably would have gone on to harm people in the future - almost certainly. They believed he posed a credible threat and I very much doubt Mr Duggan did anything to show them otherwise, being the wannabe gangster he so clearly was.

The police can't win either way, these same people will always complain and blame them. I'm very happy the killing has been ruled lawful, because it was. No tin foil hat nutcase is going to change that.

Just like pushing an old man or putting 7 bullets in a restrained man's head. So threatening.

I concur. Some people have a tainted, unhealthy and frankly unrealistic view of things. They would rather believe that a group of highly trained police officers have some malicious murderous agenda instead of the fact they simply honestly perceived a true risk, so shot him.

Add to this they then suggest they know better than the jury who have access to far more information than they do.

Bizarre!

Exactly, it's very strange.
