I am looking at replacing the front pads on my car. I thought the discs needed changing too but having checked them for rust etc and measured their thickness they are only half worn. Does it matter that I am using 3rd party pads (pagid) on the OEM discs? or am I being pedantic!?

Nothing wrong with Pagid. I have Pagid calipers, disks and pads on the front and shoes on the rear. Had them for a couple of years and they work perfectly. The disks and calipers don't rust either which is weird. They must have some sort of coating on them.
Im ordering a set of ATE pads (from Euros) today to replace the Pagid pads i fitted 50k miles ago that dont seem to have worn at all in that time, have never worked properly from day one. Ive had enough of a bad experience with Pagid from Euros that i will never fit them to another car again
No, Pagid are owned by TMD Friction who also own Textar and Mintex to name a few.
Pagid also have a racing line of products too, and their products are used in motorsport across the world. Their brake components just won the British GT Championship in an Aston Martin.
I bought two new rear callipers (pagid) two years ago.
a couple weeks ago i did a brake fluid flush and decided to reset the pistons back into the callipers when the flush was carried out.
the dust boots on the pistons were binding pistons so when you wound the pistons back in the boot was going round with the piston (which it shuoldnt and would have eventually torn
i had to lube it as best i could but that didnt stop it binding. when the piston was reset the boot was the wrong shape and i had to spend ages folding it back into the correct position
ive never had a VW calliper do that before and ive owned some absolutely ancient Golfs
