Annoyed with myself - Win 7 VPN

Test lab, 2008 r2 server with RRaS. Router passes through PPTP to the RRaS server.

Create a "connect to workplace" VPN on win 7 and put in the external ip.

VPN connects fine and I can see the client connect in the RRaS console. However, I cant access any of the servers, ping or otherwise

I even unticked the default gateway in the VPN tcp/ip settings but that didnt help

NIC on client is 192.168.1.x and a gateway of 192.168.1.254
Server lab is on 192.168.2.x and gateway of 192.168.2.1

Have you configured any internal dns addresses in the vpn connection on the W7 machine? if not then you won't be able to lookup/ping servers by their hostnames

so add the lab dc dns box to the vpn adapter? done that, still no joy

Can you ping ANYTHING by IP on the 2.x network? What about with the FQDNs?

hmmm, could try disabling DC's firewall then ping that box to test if that's blocking ICMP traffic?

This may work. Reasoning shown below.

In the advanced settings of the firewall change the ICMP echo request options to allow public, private and domain access in the firewall.
