Hi guys,

I'd like to build a 32GB box (although I would like to be able to upgrade to 64GB in the future- please bear this in mind) for programming purposes (so wont need a graphics card).

I am thinking this for the CPU:

Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor £240 inc VAT on overclockers

and I have found:

Crucial 32GB (16GB x 2 Kit) PC3-10600 DDR3 DR x4 RDIMM for £183 inc VAT

I'd like to get your suggestions on what motherboard I should get to match the memory above? I'm also interested in overclocking, therefore is my CPU ok and what air cooling tower would you recommend?

I am a bit worried the current Haswell CPUs only support 32GB RAM and if I want to upgrade to 64GB in future I will have to replace the CPU and motherboard too.... (please advise).

Thanks

ps any general advice is welcome!

X79 would seem to be an option for this. Many boards already support 64GB & most have 8 memory slots. The equivalent CPU on X79 would be a 4820k.

Of course, the motherboard will be more expensive (I would recommend this one, which I used to build a work PC the other week) :

And no on-board graphics, so would have to get the cheapest GFX you could like this
(£20):

Up to you really, if its worth the extra cash for 64GB capability & 8 RAM slots.
