Hi Gents

got myself a 4770k running with a h100i so I thought I would test a bit of overclocking. a bit of a chicken so I thought I would use the gigabyte easy tune tools to start off with...
When I pop it upto 4.1gz (light) it all seems ok and temps go high underload (IBT) maybe around 60c... (not to bad I thought?)

When I push it higher medium 4.3ghz or extreme 4.5ghz though it goes very got,,, late 90'sc

I was thinking that maybe reseating the cooler, however I have very good idle temps 25-30c so I did not think that was the issue. I just did use the stock compound on the h100i though so perhaps this is not good enough for the higher overclocks?

Just wondered what your thoughts were?

Thanks

How much voltage are you using to get to 4.5? More volts = higher temp. If its stable at 4.5, reduce the voltage until unstable and then bump it up a tiny bit until stable.

Auto overclock features have a tendency to give it more volts than you need. Check in the BIOS to see what your VCORE is set to.

you would do a whole lot better with manual overclocking through the bios

ive yet to see any software based overclocking work or be better than manual,80's is fine but I bet you could reduce/improve cpu voltage over what easytune is using

Sorry to hijack slightly but I'm trying to OC my 4770k and in HWMonitor I've noticed the temperatures of the cores are fairly varied but within 1-3 degrees of each other.. Is that normal?

I need 1.31v for 4.5ghz using Aida64. My temps max at 85c on the hottest core the rest are 79/80c. Cooled using H100i fans at 2000 rpm when stressing and 1200rpm for day to day. Idle temps are 30c ish which fluctuates depending on room ambient.

That voltage and clock is fine (4.5) - you'll get nowhere near 800% (all 8 cores/threads at 100% :p) in normal usage so the CPU wont get as hot as that.

I would now , look to manually set some of these settings in the bios. The auto OC function just pumps it all trough unsparingly giving much unwanted heat.

From what youve mentioned in the thread and your personal chip, Id be quite surprised if you couldn't achieve 4.5ghz stable with lower temps.
