Love Beefheart, I've had all his albums for the last 25 years or so. I went to see The Magic Band when they toured a few years back, Drumbo did a pretty good job without the great man himself, I was sad to see him go.
Zappa his OK, some of his music is a bit too 'Jazz' for my tastes but his guitar work is awesome. You really can't beat the YCDTOSA live Stevie's Spanking for sheer brilliance.

OP Acts as though people need telling! Everyone Knows the Legend that is Frank Zappa!
Tends to not get much of a mention compared to his more rock/jazz based stuff, but his orchestral works are amazing.
The Yellow Shark is incredible, and Civilisation Phase III is the best work he ever did imo. Decades ahead of his time.
Makes it all the more gutting that he died just as he was starting to get access to the recording technology and more importantly orchestral musicians who could do his stuff justice.
