I dragged an old Corsair TX950W PSU out of storage about a week ago to use in a family members PC that required a bit more power. The PSU was fully functional when I put it away (It was used in conjunction with a second in a planned but not to be quadfire rig), however now it refuses to start.

When attached to a motherboard it supplies the basic power required for LED's to light up around the board indicating power is present, when the power button is pressed the system shows life (IE, fans spin) for just shy of a second and everything goes back as if the machine was shut down; Basic LED lights illuminated around the board.

After removing the PSU and trying to fire it with a jump starter, I get the same symptoms. The PSU fan goes for a second, then dies. Removing and replacing the jumper gives the same result again and again. Any ideas on this one?

I should have stated the motherboard I tested works fine and is running even now in another room. This is definitely the PSU at fault.

He's already done that as well. Wake up ThaReaperGuy! :D :p

It sounds like the PSU is toast, unfortunately hardware can die if it is left sitting, PSU's are particularly prone to dieing in storage.

You could attempt repair, but doing so on a PSU is ill advised at best.

whilst in jump start, check the 3v, 12v and 5v rails with a multimeter.

Minimum and maximum values

3.3v minimum of 3.14v, maximum of 3.47v
5v minimum of 4.75v, maximum of 5.25v
+12v minimum of 11.4v, maximum of 12.6v
-12v minimum of -10.8v, maximum of -13.2

It's the only way you'll know for sure.

Don't know why I didn't think of doing that to be honest, would at least tell me if something is short/open that shouldn't be.
