Hello,

Im trying to help a friend of mine and quite frankly im stumped.
He has a pretty old graphics card - XFX Radeon 6450, but for some reason windows, dxdiag and CCC all seem to think he has a 7450 installed.

He as reinstalled his drivers several times, doesnt really want to do a fresh install unless he has to but was wondering if there was another way.

Thats his CCC hardware page. It thinks its a 7450, with the correct 6450 specs?

Any ideas? He seems to think its causing him issues when setting graphics options in games.

Thanks

What CPU does he have ? Is it an AMD Fusion by any chance ?

download GPU-Z and see what they says about the card then download CPU-ID and see what that says the card is.

Its not going to make any difference in games its basically the same card. Try to find some kind of sticker or other such identification on the card a model number or something that you can type into google to check the card. Failing taking off the cooler and looking at the chip not a lot much else you can do.

Thats saying the same.
Hes 100% sure on the card being a 6450. Hes had the year since mid 2011 and the 7450 didnt come until 2012, and he hasnt upgraded since having the system.

Its only recently been reporting as a 7450 and he cant work out why.

I encountered this same puzzle myself recently while rebuilding a friends PC. Graphics card is a passive XFX with a sticker on the back saying 6450, but AMD's drivers and GPU-Z both insist it is a 7450.

I'm pretty sure the card is a 6450 and the incorrect name is just a small goof in AMD's driver code; as far as I know the 6450 and 7450 use the same GPU so the only difference in the way they are treated by the driver is the name string.
