hey guys,

im air cooling my PC with a H80i and as my PC is in the living room, noise is a very very big thing to me but dont want to custom watercool.

im happy with corsair quiet edition fans but i want to try some different fans, can you recommend me some fans just as quiet or quieter?

my rig is red/black so if they could match thats even better :)

thanks

very expensive lol, strange colours as well :/

anything else?
i have a cm storm trooper so i can use my built in fan controller

or would it be better to replace my case as well? maybe a NZXT H630? the only problem i see with these type of cases is the airflow is restricted.

so i need a case that has the same airflow to noise restriction ratio, was looking at the corsair air 540 but see that it is a loud case, so thats out the question.

how about this, i will get a window panel from NZXT

YOUR BASKET
1 x NZXT H630 Silent Ultra Enthusiast Tower Case - Matte Black £129.95
2 x BitFenix Spectre PRO 200mm Red LED - Black £15.95 (£31.90)
Total : £174.14 (includes shipping : £10.25).

then use my AF120 quier editions in the roof as exhaust, keep my SP120 quiet editions on my H80i.

good move?

Might want to take a look at what Phanteks has and new releases soon. Enthoo Primo is bigger & £199.99 but with March release of the smaller & cheaper Enthoo Luxe and Enthoo Pro...
Enthoo Primo = 250x650x600mm (WxHxD)
Enthoo Luxe = 235x560x550mm (MSRP €129.90)
Enthoo Pro = 235x560x550mm (MSRP €79.90)

Enthoo Pro is stripped down version of Enthoo Luxe. Phanteks plans to sell added components in Enthoo Luxe as accessories for Enthoo Pro.

Have you tried using a custom fan profile/curve? My H100i idles at 400rpm keeping my 2500k under 30 and under load is about 1100rpm with temps around 50-55.

I recently replaced a very new SP120 Quite edition with a Akasa Viper, to blow directly from the front of the case onto my GTX780 to help cool it down.

After fitting the Viper the GPU average temp when under load went up about 5 degrees and the noise from the fan was greater than the noise from the hard drives. The SP120 has been refitted and the temp and noise has dropped down.

yes im using the fan controller built into my case, i currently have my 2x AF120 intakes and my AF140 roof exhaust connected to the controller.

my SP120's are set to fixed RPM at 1200RPM, my h80i cant control my SP120's as they are now PWM

a little bit off topic but, i think the NZXT H630 will be a better case for my needs.

will it be quiter and cooler then my storm trooper?
i will probz stay with the corsair quiet edition fans and change the case, opinions?

1200 rpm is top speed. Turn them down to 900 and see if that helps with noise. Obviously monitor temperatures, but they should be fine. I'm running a H100i with SP120's at 900rpm. CPU is overclocked to 4.3ghz and temps rarely go above 60c while gaming.

ive just tried that in corsair link, but having no joy, the fans RPM wont move, is there something i have to do?

i have them on fixed RPM then set both to 900, but no change

Are they 3 pin or 4 pin? If they are 3 pin then you need to control with your fan controller, not corsair link.

yeh they three pin, my fan controller has 6 settings, so i cant manually type in the RPM i wish to have.

whats the best way to do this? without having the other fans running at other speeds?

Does your fan controller have a spare channel you can put the SP120 fans on? What controller is it?

there are probably quieter fans, but the AF120's quiet edition are excellent and
like the colour ring variations
and for the price very reasonable, especially if bought in the dual packs

Bought a few alpenfohn red clover fans. PWM and very quiet. Just tried them on a k2 cooler so far. Theyre available in 140 and 120mm.

the controller that is built into this case

i cant change the speed of individual fans, only single settings for every fan connected to it.

i think im going to change case anyway, want better cooling for my harware :D

Well, regardless of whether you change case, in my opinion corsair quiet edition fans are fine. If you have £30 to spend on new fans, spend it on a 4 channel fan controller instead.

Or how about a CPU cooler that dose not need a fan for ultimate silence.

Nofan CR100A or a N of an CR-80EH.

Might need a small fan at back of case to pull heat out or you could leave one side of case off.
