AMD True Audio

Can't say I notice much difference with my speakers on.
Don't think the video translates well really, need a downloadable demo we can render IMO.

Any decent stereo headset (use headphones) does the job perfectly. Sounds superb on a G35 Stereo mode.

Yeah £700 for 2x r290x but I would feel sick if new line up came in couple months haaa

No chance of that happening buddy. Q3-4 2013 before 20mm high end gpu's come out. If im wrong ill give you both my 290's for free. ;)

I can't see how it'll work properly, as surely that youtube video isn't using the true audio chip?

I have PC360's.

Its a demonstration using Astoundsound. Think of it as a poor mans TruAudio. I think it sounds superb. So realistic its making me consider selling my surround sound headset and getting a 'proper' stereo headset.

It's not about a poor mans demo, it's exactly the same.

It's just recorded after having the processing done. You just need to do this real time in a game as recording sound and storing it from every location and every combination possible in a game is simply not possible.

There is nothing stopping you recording this sound after it's been processed and that is all the demo's are. Trueaudio has nothing to do with play back, after the audio is processed you can record it and play it back on any device.

It's no different to a game, you render a game on a graphics card....... nothing stopping you recording what is being done and played back on youtube either.

I know but i was trying to explain it to Mankini, albeit poorly. Forgive me DM. :p

Listened to both the demos and can't say I'm impressed at all. I could barely tell the difference between Stereo and 3D sound.
I'm not really a fan of 3D graphics and it doesn't look like I'm going to be a fan of 3D sound either!

Why doesn't that surprise me lol.

Okay, with my headphones I can tell the difference, it's somewhat subtle, but it's good.
In stereo, sound goes from left to right and vice versa too quickly, somewhat skipping the "middle" that doesn't happen with the astound.

Proud of you Mankini.

I listened to the demo using some 'proper stereo headphones' (I don't want any of this USB rubbish that completely bypasses my ASUS Xonar :p) and I was quite amazed by the demo actually. Had to turn my volume up a fair bit, but this definitely made for a more atmospheric and believable experience. I'd love to see (or hear) this sort of thing in games.

On a side note I'm finding it very tricky not to switch to AMD. With Mantle, True Audio and their superior mining capabilities. I'm actually only really holding onto the green card at the moment because, as a monitor reviewer, I want to be able to test Nvidia G-SYNC. :p

Agreed. As i mentioned above its coming to a few titles. The closest of which is Thief and it releases 25th of Feb. I'll be sure to let you know what TruAudio is like in Thief.

I just used stereo speakers, cuz that's how I play my games, mostly.

That explains it then.
