i5 4670K, i7 4770K or AMD Equivalent?

I second the 840, if I didn't have my M4 that would be what I would go out and purchase

Also, you must get an SSD, the difference it makes on almost every system is crazy

stick it in a 2Ghz C2D mobile with 1GB of ram, suddenly the laptop is useable

All parts with the Samsung SSD at the minute are £371.74.

But I'll wait it out in hope that January sales will knock em down... or doesn't that happen in the PC component world?

Definitely the samsung, theres an issue with some sandforce controller based ssd's on z87. Samsung are more reliable too.

I have just bought the i7 4700k due to the fact that I do lots of video editing, design and gaming.
My GPU is most likely lacking a bit (alright at the moment), but that's a problem for the future.

It should be here today or tomorrow (was delayed 4 days due to the floods)

Have you got it yet? If so what over clock have you managed?

Ye an ssd is definitely worth it

I'm in the same position of upgrading cpu & motherboard, but have decided to wait until end of the month, & see if 'Mantle' is worth all the hype & whether there are worthwhile performance gains to go back to a AMD cpu over an Intel one.

Based on the games you play get the i5. Of those, only BF uses more than 4 threads so the i7 is a waste and most are very poorly threaded so the i5 is better than the amd.

Just want to jump in with the SSD convo, I vouch Crucial SSD's I even use a 120gb M4 SSD to record game play too, My SSD's have never let me down.

And yes, you will see/feel an SSD upgrade more than any other PC part upgrade

Yes, sorry - forgot to update.

I haven't actually overclocked it yet. I was too excited to get it up and running and didnt really have the time to fit it all, so I did it without adding my aftermarket cooler - so won't be overclocking yet until I find time to get that fitted.

I had this quandry a few weeks ago, had the itch to build a new rig (it's currently around 6years old) but then I thought well it plays everything I want so why spend the better part of £2000.

I replaced my 70gb raptor with a Samsung 250GB SSD 840 and the performance increase is amazing! Although it runs at half speed (Asus maximus formula doesn't support 6Gbs) it#s still a massive improvement over the raptor.

My 840 EVO also saying 8 years, 8 months but 0 days lol (514GB written, 304 work time hours). Not sure thats gonna cut it for my use in the long term, might invest in a Kingston to spread the load.
