Just a word of warning about CEX

Traded in a load of old games & DVDs which was fine, but not done any hardware with them.

That figure is the most modest figure and only counts online stock though.

£122,000 loss would be pretty big for a company such as CEX in my opinion.

I suspect it's a matter of the staff both not caring and also not knowing anything about the stuff they buy or sell.

In fairness to them however, it can be quite difficult to find a spec for a discontinued laptop, and they're probably told not to trust a word you tell them about it.

they checked the specs for themselves..

both times..

they still have it in testing as I was going to accept the offer of £270 but when I checked their website and noticed they had put it as windows 7 to get a cheaper price, as the exact same one but with 6gb ram they buy in for 313, mine has 8gb

to hard to open task manager and system info

cex give better trade in than GAME.

all of them are trying to rob you blind and then the buyer though

This. I normally trade in all my games at CEX now as Game sometimes pay up to £20 less than CEX when trading a bulk load of games. Only bonus with Game is getting reward points, but I rarely buy games from Game as they never really reduce new ones, when Amazon will drop the price a good £10 below retail.

Used to work in one (Bexleyheath, if anyone is local). Some (read; most) of my co-workers struggled to even turn on a laptop, so I ended up doing pretty much all of the "testing". Would not personally use for anything remotely technical or expensive.

The one in Wolverhampton looks like they've just hoovered up everyone from the local rock club that needs a wash and then given them a job.

This is the truth,

Back in the days when OcUK were small I used to shop a lot along Tottenham Court Road, CEX were good back then.

me too. traded a lot through them, always was fair prices and never had a complaint. Its down to the quality of the staff and customers. There are always gonna be rare cases like us tech savvy people that notice that some stuff doesn't always add up.

I don't think they go out of their way to rip you off its just minimum wage jobs attract minimum wage caring. I bet the store managers are getting flak on a daily basis.

I bought some Skylanders from them the other week as they were pretty reasonable second hand.

As for the MM how do you actually get access to it? Is it 1000 posts or some such?
