Soooooo the day has come for me to move out of the rented apartment. Unfortunately the ex left some horrible burn marks on the carpet (thanks hair straighteners).

Any advice on how to resolve this (and possible save some of the deposit) would be really appreciated :D

Thanks!

In the past, I have brushed up the pile, then carefully trimmed the scorched area in a carpet, then hoovered pile back down, landlord didn't even notice.:o

Just used a stiff hand brush, to get the flatten pile to stand back up like it is when new.

You usually only need to remove only a few millimetres, then hoover flat, try a small area first.

had waterproof eyeliner (not mine) in a beige carpet a couple of years ago, and couldn't get it out fully. night before my landlord came round I was touching up the stair walls with white paint and had an idea. a few minutes later I was carefully dabbing a small brush with some 50/50 water/white paint on the dark area. landlord didn't notice:) I'm not advising this, but it worked for me! i gave it a week before the stain would be back:o

ok, slight update. Applied a steel brush, got a lot of the rougher stuff out but it left quite a dark smear. Used some boiling water and carpet cleaner + forceful cloth action and some of the marks have come out. Just need to pull up the carpet a bit and it "should" look better.

Thanks again.

I rented a house once that had red carpet throughout. It looked hideous and I questioned whether the person who picked it was blind.

However it was great at not showing up stains. Could throw red wine at it all day long and it looked no different.
