Please help it's driving me nuts my usage is all over the place!

Benchmarks run fine at 99% gpu usage, Far cry 3 runs pretty much in the 90s

but BF4 doesn't, batman: AO is funny but I have a feeling its forcing the 2nd gpu to be a Phsyx card

anyway basically It's bugging me, testing out other games such as Crysis 3 currently but it's looking like the usage is a bit fluctuating (80-90%) constantly , sometimes I get massive frame drops on it too

Could this be my CPU? would another 8GB of ram help at all?

Really lost on this one

Try lowering your clocks on the graphics cards in BF4.

If the usage goes up then you have a CPU bottleneck.

I have the same problem with my 7970s and an i7 920.

Currently saving for a CPU.

i5 is the issue in Crysis 3 and BF 4 multiplayer. I noticed a big jump in gpu usage and frames going from a sandy i5 at 4.4ghz to a ivy i7 at 4.5ghz.

In parts of crysis 3 (the bits with all the grass animation) my framerates doubled.....

+1 for CPU bottleneck. BF4 was laggy and anything but smooth when I had 4 cores parked on my CPU (unknowingly!) so I was using my i7 as an i5.....

Since I unparked them it's now like hot butter.

Cores are unparked, latest Nvidia drivers, win7

shame that it could be my CPU, I'll try the gpu's @ stock and see what happens

Bf3/4 and crysis 3 are games that show better performance/gpu usage with an i7 and sli. Had the same problem when running sli 670's on a 4.5ghz 3570k. Switching to a 3770k even at a lower clockspeed improved things in theese games. Cpu use droppd a nice amount too, was seeing 90%+ on the i5.

BF4 ain't worth getting too upset about the game and engine are broken on so many levels, multi GPU has quite a few issues and while your probably somewhat CPU limited its more than that.

As an aside a lot of people with both crossfire and SLI get pretty horrendous microstutter in BF4 even with cores unparked unless they set renderdevice.renderaheadlimit to 2 - very slight performance hit (~4-5%) but it becomes a ton smoother.

Sounds like thread limitation to me too. Keep an eye out for a 3770k. I really can't recommend i5's for multi card setups anymore, 4 threads just can't cut it in the uber high end titles.

Mantle may offset this thread issue for amd users, but nvidia users should certainly be looking at i7's.

Yep, bf4 isnt a great game to judge performance on. But bf3 and c3 are pretty well rounded. The difference in bf3 for me with sli was like night vs day when moving from i5 to i7.

Crysis 3 is better, not perfect still usage fluctuating between 70-90% , maximum frames are great but the mins is down to like 38 . yeah BF4 is not great to test on I know :( still would be nice to find a good balance

You will need an well clocked i7 to get decent mins on Crysis 3 on ultra. The grass animation is a cpu killer.

just what I was afraid of lol dropping the memory clocks on the cards to stock has helped a tad, havn't had a chance to try dropping the cards to stock completely yet

dropping the cards to stock did very little for gpu usage, maybe slight improvement.

some games i get usage in the 90% constant (alan wake for example) others are all over the place, so I guess a 3770k is my next piece of kit
