Not refunded booking fee?

Is this normal? Bought some tickets to a club event which has now been cancelled by the club/promoter. I inquired about a refund and they said a refund would be issued within 5 days minus the booking fee?

Is this normal practice for them to keep booking fees still? It was cancelled for reasons beyond my control and no alternative date was offered.

I'm not too fussed about it as it's only a couple of quid but it just seems a bit cheeky really! Bet they've made quite a few hundred off people's booking fees alone!

My understanding is they have to refund costs in full. Check the t and c's however. It might state in there.

Legally, they only have to refund the face value of the ticket, if their T&Cs state otherwise, then obviously they have to stick to that instead.

Yeh it does say in their T&C's!

Cheeky *******! That's very sly, I don't think they should be allowed to have that in their T&C's!

I wonder what measures are actually in place to stop agencies doing this to generate a few extra £££?

What's to stop me setting up a ticket website, selling cheap tickets with massive booking fees, and then cancelling and only refunding the ticket price?

I'm not saying he should but getting a CC company to just take the money back when they've legally done nothing wrong doesn't really sound like it's going to end well.

I think that's irrelevant. Surely that's what the chargeback exists for, to ensure the consumer isn't out of pocket?

True, I would question if their T&C is legit and not just written to scare people.

Link to T&Cs? the promo that worked at my old club had to refund booking fees if event was cancelled. It's only supposed to cover people changing their minds.

Correct me if I'm wrong but unless at checkout there is a "booking fee" in the breakdown it would be included in the face value of the ticket.

Heres what they quoted me in an email....

"In the rare event of an event being cancelled, Ticket Arena will contact the ticket purchaser using the details provided for the purchase. Ticket Arena will wait for official confirmation and will act to keep tickets already purchased valid for any rescheduled events. Should the customer not wish to attend a rescheduled event or if the event is cancelled then Ticket Arena will only refund the ticket purchaser the face value of the ticket."

Should have read them before agreeing to them then.

That's a nonsense thing to say.

I could write T&C's that say "In the event of a cancellation, you will be liable for the sum of £1million GBP, payable in full within one months notice."

It would still fall apart like tissue paper if you went to court.

Do you read the T's and C's of every online store before you buy anything?

Tickets? Yes. Because I know how crafty they can be. For general products? No, because there's no point.

If you write such an absurd thing of course it's going to never go to court. But you can exaggerate anything to make a point go in your favour, doesn't make you right.

Fact of the matter is it's in the T&C's, it's a pretty standard thing for ticket companies, therefore T&C's should be read, and not bought if OP was unhappy with said T&C's.
