Now this is the story all about how
My life got fixed, turned right back round
And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became slim and strong like a bear

In West Kent county, born and raised
In McDonalds where I spent most of my days
Chilling out, drinking, eating all the food
And all shooting some bad guys like a gamer dude
When a couple of pies, that had done me no good
Started making trouble in my massive pud
I got one little fright and my mind got scared
And said "You're moving your fat arse up and out of that chair"

I juiced for a while and out went beer
My veggies were "fresh" and I had nice year
If anything I could say that this change was rare
But I thought nah, forget it, this diet is fair!

I turned up to a race on Day 30, Month Eight
And I yelled to the belly "Yo, flab, see you later!"
Looked at my body I was finally there
To run with my friends, without gasping for air.

Well - That's the plan anyway. 1st January 2014 I weighed 21st 2lb. I'm out of shape, unfit, fat, basically a mess. Well I'm doing something about it. I'm doing a 60 day juice fast and keeping a video diary of my journey. I'm doing DDP Yoga. I'm losing weight and training to prepare myself for a run on 30th August 2014. Eight Months.

This isn't any ordinary run, but a Spartan Race, with obstacles, mud, barbed wire, water. Basically everything that would ususally make me crawl under a duvet with a burger and cry. But I'm going to do it!

I'm opting to raise money for the MS Society as my Dad has Multiple Sclerosis and I can see the impact it can have on lives. This race is the sort of thing he would love to have a go at a few years ago, and probably could've done. I have the choice to do something about myself and my situation so I can do the race. That choice is a luxury that MS takes away.

£500 is a huge target for one man - but I've got 8 months to raise the money. Please feel free to ask me any questions through twitter at @sean_judge. If you do give, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and please remember to GIFT AID.

Please feel free to check out my video diary thread in SA

If anyone would like to support me with my challenge you can donate at www.justgiving.com/spartansean

I've a lot of work to do, totally changing my diet and lifestyle but I'm very motivated to smash this.

Thanks for your time :)

Sean

Good cause and donated. Hope you manage to turn things around. It's a struggle but keep at it.

Good luck!

Oh my! Thank you so much!!

I am totally focused on cracking this. The juice is just my start, hopefully people won't focus on that. I'm doing everything I can and using every bit of motivation and support I can to keep me on track :) thanks again!

Good on you for getting up and doing something.
I was 22stone at one point, lost 8 stone and went down to 14 which was a bit too light for my build, i'm back up to 15.5 now (although want to get down to a bit under 15). I've also done the running malarky, this next great north run will be my 4th and I plan on doing the Newcastle Stampede in October (similar to Spartan).

It will be tough but keep at it, you'll be given a whole new lease of life and people will treat you differently.
If I have any advice for you though it's don't just do a juice diet, eat normally and you can't go wrong (by this I mean think of how a caveman would eat and do the same, after all, it's what your body was built to eat).

Still, good luck!

The hardest test is the persistence, but some of the strongest motivators are visual. That video diary thing, but also photographs can be a brutal reminder of the need for change, and also a track of progress.

Little things like a belt notch, feeling more energetic, or even feeling more toned under a layer of stomach-jelly can all be good progress milestones.

The diet will be the linchpin to your success. Eating healthier will make you more energetic. When you've dieted to an acceptable weight, then begin the serious exercises - don't ever overdo it or you could put yourself out of action for a period of time, which could destroy your morale.

For a guy of your weight, you'll find that after the Yoga, free weights are the best initially for core strength, then slowly work up to some decent cardio/high-intensity stuff. Weights + High Intensity will shave the fat off better than anything but an amputation!

This is great in principle! I will watch with interest before donating once I see some of your positive results.

My auntie recently passed away from MS (horrible) and my best friends mum has had it for years. Its a struggle for any family having to deal with and I admire your pledge to raise money for a good cause.

Best of luck man, I will frequent your thread often.

There is a juice diet that the OP is following, a short documentary (fat sick and nearly dead) which explains most of it.

Mate of mine tried it for ten days solid. He lost 8lbs.

Afterwards he put it all back on again.

However I believe it can be beneficial as a detox or a kick-start to a healthily eating plan. However there is no replacement for a well balanced and controlled diet and exercise.

Yep, it's a way of fasting that still allows me to get a load of nutrients that I've not had for ages and allow me to get rid of some weight and 'detox'. I stress however it is only, as Musty says, the first part of the puzzle. It breaks my cycle of bad eating. After the fast I'm going to a plant-based diet for a month or two and relearning about new things to eat. I'm giving up processes food and gluten (hopefully on the latter) and I'd say lactose but cheese is going to be a tough one to drop totally.

Basically, the juicing is about 5% of my plan for this year!

My video diary explains most of this too.

good luck.

remember the first few stone will fall off you fast... its the next lot that are harder to lose and keep off.

Lets just hope by this point he is well into good forms of exercise and the rest will become a way of life, not a challenge.

I'm not just in for weight loss. Health and fitness are my motivators. :) Hopefully starting Krav Maga next week, was going for CrossFit too but can't afford both.

Sounds like a waste of time tbh....

That said, I hope you manage to turn your life around op. Good luck.

I wish you the best of luck on your journey sir!! And a great cause to raise money for too, my mum had MS for many many years, sadly she isn't with us anymore but my dad did a half marathon to raise money for the MSS.

I went through a similar health kick about 8 years ago and if i could go back to tell myself a few things, i would say to not think of it as a diet but rather a life style change, healthy eating and good old fashioned exercise will see you shed the weight in no time.
Take some time to read up on good and bad foods to eat and find a beginner exercise plan. Personally I wouldn't waste money on personal trainers, you can find everything you need online or ask someone at the gym.

Have you considered doing a programme like C25K or C210K? It's usually controlled by a smartphone app that instructs you what to do, through a series of fast walks and runs but it essentially gets you off the couch and preps you to do a 5/10k run, hence the name. You can do it around the village or do it on a treadmill

As well as that, you mention in the videos that your skin is clearing up, which is great.

The chap in Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead has quite a severe skin illness (don't know what it's called), which is quite debilitating. By juicing he managed to stop all this medication (and there was a lot of it!) and all his symptoms have gone away.

I'm currently having some very healthy smoothies every morning for breakfast. I suffer from Crohn's Disease and my symptoms have definitely improved as a consequence. When I started university 4-5 years ago, and for the first couple of years, I had some painful symptoms. In the third year of uni I started eating properly, no frozen pizzas etc, and my symptoms all went away. It's great! I think we all want to be as independent of medicines as we can.

As I said in your other thread, good luck, and I'll be watching your videos.

Yeah I've had the c25k app a fair while, I started running in 2012 for a while when i was around the 18st mark (had been doing atkins) but the weather turned bad and I had no appropriate running stuff for cack weather and struggled to keep going.

Definitely plan to go back to that though.

Exercise so far is DDP Yoga when I can get the TV and living room for half hour. Hopefully starting Krav Maga shortly and I'll be probably running from early March, bodyweight depending.
