AMD Catalyst 13.35 BETA Driver With Mantle and HSA Support Scheduled For End of January

Big lad needs to start training with Jen.

Jen fights crime, whilst Big lad breathes heavily sat at desk trying to resolve public relations with memory black screen complaints. :D.

Only playing - he is huge though...I'm dreading the initial Mantle reviews as it may put me in the position to want to jump ship :D

So we have the proprietary tech called "True Audio", which is cool, as AMD invented it but am I missing something? That demo sounds damned good (even if the fella gets on my nerves) and this is just using normal sound chips and headphones (I am using Sennheiser 333D G4me headphones). Why do we need True Audio when we can do it already? Wouldn't it be better to promote and use this already available and sounding great audio?

It did didn't it? At first i scoffed at TruAudio (like everyone did who watched the live stream) but after seeing that demonstration i was like, yeah thats awesome.

I guess it's because the chip is required to do it in real-time. It is no different than recording a game running all the DX11 bells and whistles and someone playing it back on their PC on an Intel GPU.

I see people put down True Audio as an old already existing technology, but they neglect to accept it is also doing far more than positional audio.

I can't wait to see, err hear what it is capable off. :)

It isn't already available, that sound in that demo is generated using the algorithms used in the true audio dsp. It's just sound, sound can be recorded, if you play around and process the sound, you can record the output.

When you see a video of BF4 running on youtube do you wonder why you need a graphics card to run BF4 on your computer?

It's the same thing, you can process anything, then record, it, doing it on the fly is a very different thing.

Thanks for the explanation.

Better way of saying it :D

I can shoot people just fine with no sound, with no graphics I can't shoot anyone.

Go and play CSGO or any game where sound is your Key to seeing people.
Battlefield games with no sound would be very disappointing, its the sound that makes them games come alive.

Sound is big, its the sound that draw's you in when playing a horror game for example. If again you had no sound well it will become nothing really zero build up to the event that will happen.

Anyone who played STALKER with an XFi(with onboard ram) via OpenAL will know what's coming with TA.

It is a game changer when done right.

Actually you should be able to, that is kind of the point of really accurate positional audio, you should be able to use noise to home in on someone and shoot when the sound is coming from directly infront of you.

More to the point, there have been many games where I can hear movement on the other side of say a door, in which you can't see someone but know they are there, or can hear them around a corner, and can shoot through the door or jump out around the corner and get someone.

Audio can be very important, as important, maybe not, maybe. A combination of all of them being as good as possible is generally a better experience.

I didn't say sound wasn't important, it just isn't as important as seeing the enemy. I can hear the direction of enemy on CSGO, BF4 etc etc just fine without any fancy audio equipment.

There is usually so much going on anyway that footsteps can't be heard.

I play BF4 without a headset or decent speakers but can still compete effectively with the best of them online. I feel I compensate for reduced sound awareness by being more aware of visual clues and prompts - for example on the mini map. I also play a slightly different style using motion sensors and an anti-flanking play style.

True Audio does sound like a massive boost though!

Sound is massively important to me, I play with 2.1 speaker setup which includes a Mission 15inch sub - let me tell you my nextdoor neighbours must know when I get taken out by a cruise missile in BF4...

My poor neighbours :P

Thanks for the heads up on the driver situ. Will be good to finally start being able to use all the fancy things we paid for on our gfx cards, then I can show my gf that it was all worth it!! :)

CS is designed so you can always hear the footsteps no matter what is happening around you. Well on my setup I can, the footstep on that game have a very high audio cue over most other sounds in the game.

The evolution of the Audio in games is massive, just has much as getting a nice new shadow to make a scene look that much better.
You could hear footsteps fine in BF2 would that be ok if the audio was in BF4?

If you could choose BF2 audio or BF4 audio to work on that game what would you use?

Any breakthrough to make the audio sound more realistic like that Astrosound demo I take my hat of to them.
