NPD today released their latest game console sales numbers in the US for December. Microsoft’s Xbox One emerged as the No.1 selling console in the US market. Microsoft sold 908,000 units in December. Also, Xbox 360 continued to see sales with 643,000 units sold in December, putting it in the No.3 spot overall. Together, Xbox One and Xbox 360 held 46 percent of the hardware market share in the U.S. and showed a 10 percent year over year growth from December 2012.
December 2013 NPD highlights include:

  • Total combined retail spend on the Xbox platform (Xbox One and Xbox 360) in December reached $1.39 billion, 50 percent of the combined software, hardware and accessories spend in the U.S. (Source: NPD Group, December 2013).
  • During the month of December, Xbox One held six of the top 10 spots on the new generation console game title list: “Battlefield 4,” “Forza Motorsport 5,” “Dead Rising 3,” “Ryse: Son of Rome,” “Madden NFL 25” and “Call of Duty: Ghosts” (Source: NPD Group, December 2013).
Not bad for a console supposedly in trouble and not selling eh?! ;)

I keep seeing you post this but haven't once seen anybody seriously suggesting that the XB1 would be failing sales wise like the Wii U (other than a few trolls), it was always going to do decently especially in the US.

I think the biggest thing to take from this NPD release is that it seems like the PS4 is only around 50,000 units behind, which is crazy considering that stock has been non existent in the US and XB1 has been on shelves for quite a while now. This suggests that had Sony been doing what Microsoft are (flooding the US market with consoles, at the expense of other countries) that the PS4 sales would have been significantly higher, and considering how many more 360s were sold than PS3s in the US market, it seems like a massive shift.

I think I'm going to start a thread about the wall plugs I bought yesterday. I think I need to show they sell the most, and are the best ones available to all (no, you don't get to have your own opinion on what you prefer).

I Just feel so strongly about the companies who make wall plugs and I need to secure myself in the thought that my choice was the right choice in this matter to avoid more juvenile insecurity.

Crap....the pack doesn't include screws. Damn, they must be available in a DLC pack. Noooooooooo!!

That's quite possibly true, though I imagine we'll know for sure over the next 6 months as demand evens out and stock shortages go away.

I don't think you "keep" seeing me post this as this was only released today so I added it to a thread specifically about sales numbers as it's concrete research and numbers rather than peoples guesses at what's happening. Not quite sure why you feel it's somehow less valid than you guessing at stuff... How about just commenting on the post and the numbers rather than trying to make stuff personal?

Or you could take from the numbers that Xbox One is outselling PS4 in a major territory, arguably the largest globally where they are both released and available and PS4 is only outselling XO globally because it has a monopoly in 37 countries where XO isn't even released yet and Sony are flooding those markets with consoles where they have no competition... /shrug

LOL its all quite desperate in the cold light of day really...

ps3ud0
Indeed, when you get to the point where people feel the need to get personal because officially announced numbers for a particular place don't happen to suit their argument you do have to wonder a little bit...

Heaven forbid anyone has the cheek to actually post some facts into the thread... :D

It is surprising, NA was PS4s launch and priority, even dumping its homeland market to push sales in NA, and they got to sell it first in that territory on the opening weekend for a new console, and they still didn't make it.

Yes, no one thought the XO would be an out and out failure, but they sure as hell mostly said the PS4 would rubbish all over it, and it hasn't, even with the best possible advantage given to it.

Brand loyalty plays a big part, also NA consumers mostly go wth MS products due to the roots of MS just as you'd see the same for Sony in its native territory. You don't see MS doing as well in Japan as Sony has in NA even with the PS3 and xbox360.

Germany has reported sales of around 100k x1 with around 250k PS4. Its all just numbers, but I do however feel Sony has in truth done quite well in NA this time around.

Early days yet.

They have done better, but its not even close to the big washout so many said would happen, and lets be honest, theirs no spending market even close to what they get in NA.

Just glad its close, works out better for all of us in the long run, I want them at each other throats lol.

To even sell more then MS in NA a territory clearly held by MS for many years with xbox is very good for competition.

I didn't think PS4 would be a landslide in NA. I was however quite surprised with the figures in Germany. I know the German Market is a big PC market so didn't expect either the make much impact, but the PS4 did remarkably well IMO over there.

PS4 is out of stock everywhere... it's simply too early to compare sales figures.

I don't think anyone ever doubted Xbox One would sell well in the US (and UK), the trouble is PS4 is expected to sell a ton more (even in the US) when Sony can manage to meet the demand and in turn retailers stop price gouging.

PS4 was apparantely smashing Xbox out the ballpark :D

It's funny how grown adults thought that because their neighbour's uncle who worked for Micrsoft preferred the PS4, that no one was buying an Xbox.

No its not, I know people in the some part in the US, have a friend in Boston said he walked in and bought it shelves full of them, in fact no I know in Texas, New York and Boston have said they cant walk in a buy them, also a friend in Toronto went and bought one no worries.

So are you saying that you believe Xbox One will maintain its lead over PS4? I bet you in a few months when Sony have properly fulfilled demand it's a long way behind.

I think he is pointing out that there are Playstation 4s on store shelves and indeed it is not sold out completely on planet Earth as some people seem to think.
