New car - Jaaaagggg XJ6

Hmmm something doesn't sound right. 18 and Uni coupled with Jaaag, Villa, South of France, My Mazda is at home.
It wasn't quite like that growing up in South Yorkshire
It was more like 18 and Uni coupled with get out to avoid the drug pit, oh crap my student loan means I've got what' in the cupboard to last me the fortnight, Caravan, South of Grimsby, oh good my parents' car isn't burnt out at home
Enjoy the car, you've got me wanting one now
Oh yeah and the pose leaning on the bonnet is a bit... fruity.

Out of interest, will getting caught speeding in France be just a fine or can they give points for speeding offences abroad too?
Just a fine thankfully, and even then it's debatable whether or not you have to pay it. I don't think I was much over the limit on most of them, there was one however where I may have been ever so slightly naughty......

I think times have changed quite a lot, compared to a lot of my friends I lead a very modest lifestyle! The pose on the bonnet can be explained by the fact that he does indeed bat for the other team

Are they typically fairly bullet proof at these mileages?
Any major components known to be an issue?
I fancy something 'special' for my next car but not an outright sports car.

They're not as bad as people make them out to be, but in no way are they as cheap to run as a Ford Focus. The engine is a ford V6, so pretty much bulletproof, and a lot of the components are shared with other Jags/Fords so are fairly cheap to acquire if you know where to look. The only major issue I've had so far is electrics: that's cost me £600 so far, and they're still not totally fixed (should be by the end of next week though!). Otherwise, I've spent a couple of hundred on suspension, another hundred on an oxygen sensor, and £28 on some brake pads. I've done around 20k since I bought it, and in the next 6 months or so it'll probably need tyres and a gearbox service, which will likely come to around £1500.
It does help that I've got a mechanic friend who does all the nasty jobs for me at an incredibly low rate, and I spend quite a lot of time researching the best value parts - I suspect that had I taken it to Jag for the work I'd have been left with a bill of well over £2000.
If you were to not run it "properly", i.e. fit cheap tyres, ignore the occasional warning light etc etc, then they can be run very cheaply. If you're a bit of a perfectionist like me, then they're not as cheap, but still manageable, and if you're someone who takes it to Jag for everything, you've probably got the cash to buy something better!
