Is The Secret World worth £8 on Steam

Hello peeps,

As per title is Secret World worth £8 of my hard earn money as it's on offer for £8 on Steam.

Id say yes. Its not your average d&d rule set type mmo though, you'll have to learn how to build a character. Some quests are very deep, in that you'll have to do a lot more than your average mmo to complete them.

crafting's a bit meh, but worth while unlike many other mmo's.

Yeah i think so. I only played for a bit but there's certainly a mad range of skills you can do. I found the combat a bit flat and old school but generally it was a fun play for the time i was. Its a bit different, and thats never a bad thing.

*edit - just tried to find a download link with no luck and the sidebar is age of conan? weird. Doh, nm solved.

Is there still a lot of ppl playing this tho, I checked Steams Community to see how many ppl are playing right now and it said 600... doesn't seem a lot..

deffo worth it, first mmo ive spent a lot of time in since ffxi, clocked about 37 days so far, even if you dont get involved with end game, there's still enough content up until that point to rival any single player rpg and just as, if not more enjoyable!
end game is a bit of a mixed bag, i personalty enjoy it, as you don't have to apply to join a high end cabel (guild) and schedule your life around it to do the high end dungeons and get good gear, you can do most of it in pick up groups easily (although the dungeons themselves are quite challenging and take a bit of learning - just getting the groups to do them i find pretty easy!)

Well worth it but dont expect a wow clone as its a different style here but in a good way!
The combats a bit quirky but the character progression is immense as you can have various skill set ups if youve worked enough for experience etc.
If you like conspiracy type stories and just generally good plots then you should enjoy time in the game. Its very, very underrated.

Just seen this myself and it's raised an eyebrow, I love reading about conspiracies and secret societies so it's got my attention.

I've never played a MMO before so I'm coming to it fresh. Is it something that you can play single player or do you need to get into groups? I don't have a lot of free time so crafting friendships etc., with people isn't really going to work out, I'd like something that I can dip into and out of.

The Mrs plays a lot and we co-op together with what we can, (we blazed through Saints Row 3 and 4 together), is this a game that can be played just co-op?

Also once you've paid for the game is that it? Or are there loads of micro transactions that just spoil things (at least for me)?

*edit* I've just seen the "Massive edition" with extra DLC and weapons, is that something that completes the game or can it be ignored? If both the Mrs and myself bought it that would be a £50 investment which we probably can't justify with the amount of free time we have.

Thanks. :)

you can do most of the game in a duo except dungeons which you need a 5 man group for, and end game stuff. there are a few solo instances early in the game and the story mission is solo for some silly reason, so every now and then you have to play solo! solo instances die out as the game progesses as no one liked them, but the story mission is solo only for some reason.

I've played this on and off for a couple of years but I have no idea how to play the game still or work out the character the builds (i just kinda pick stuff that looks nice and it doesnt work) and stats and tutorials evade me totally. That and it runs under 60fps at all times on dual 780s and an i7 on top settings. I had a much easier time learning and getting into Eve online.

Basically if you were awesome at wow or rift or lotro or aion or tera you will suck at this as it's a whole another type of stat based build based confusion. Fair warning K?

For £8 you can't go wrong even if all you do is the story missions and quests.

I think it could be particularly satisfying playing it co-op as there are all sorts of puzzles etc to solve which could be great fun working out together

Even if you don't put the time in to figure out optimal builds and the like, still worth it for Kingsmouth and the Savage coast alone You can get away with crappy builds for those two zones :D

Stonkingly good game though I need help from a mod on their site because I'm stuck in a loop from which I do not have enough ability points to complete.

It's brilliant, and is the only good MMO along with GW2 + TERA. £8 is ridiculously good value, I got it for £4.99 on Amazon and felt the need to buy a friend a copy to.
