Need advice on kit e.g. Helmet, gloves and jacket

Hello, I'm going to be starting my experience with 125cc next month, so I'll need some protective gear. Due to me being still a student my budget isn't high...
Most likely the bike will be something like CG125, but I was thinking of also getting an 2T Supermoto. So if you could spec me a full sized helmet and the enduro style.

Get a helmet that fits your head correctly. For your first helmet, go to a motorcycle clothing shop and ask them to find the best fitting helmet. It's the fit that matters.
 
As said above, design, features and looks all come after fit.

Head to a bike store, get a guy to help fit one to you. They are professionals and will find the right brand that suits your noggin best. Then go from there. And ill fitting helmet is just as bad as not wearing one.
 
Every Helmet on sale legally has passed UK certification which means its been tested accordingly and good enough to save your bonce when you come off.

DO NOT BUY FROM EBAY or ONLINE, go to a bike shop and try it on, its the only way. Only feature to look out for is a internal sun visor. I wouldn't buy a helmet without one.

Clothing wise, get some decent gloves and your good go.

(now we wait for the you need jacket, boots, trousers yada yada brigade before you even look at a bike)

125cc is not that fast, so jacket should be ok for now. When I'll change to a bigger bike then by that time I'll get proper leathers ;)

If you're too cool for decent gear then at least get some decent gloves, a textile jacket, wear some jeans and if possible sturdy boots. 125's are just as dangerous as bigger bikes if you come off.

A 125 is perfectly capable of doing speeds that will seriously mess you up.

Helmet, Jacket, Gloves, Boots at minimum.

I commute daily in full gear, including abrasion resistant trousers and it's not difficult at all.

Not sure why you think a bigger bike warrants more protection than a 125. Absolutely bizarre logic.

I'd recommend getting some bike jeans for casual wear when riding. They provide decent protection, but won't look out of place in college/street/whatever.

Believe me, you say 'a jacket will be fine for a 125'. I came off at approx 45mph on a bend due to my own silly mistake, and I was wearing normal jeans. The jeans held up (still have them) but the burns and grasing on my hip was extremely painful.

I use a mixture of Spada and RST gear for my commute. The Spada Sting is a good 'compromise' lid as it has the removable visor to give you full face protection from a normal helmet. It's well constructed and comfortable. Need a balaclava in the winter months mind as it's quite drafty! But it's a £70-80 crash helmet so there will be compromises. The Shark is £150. My mate has bought a couple of Shark lids and has been impressed by them.

Best thing to do is pop to your local bike shop and have a chat with them, try some gear on. :)

By the looks of how others drive on the road, I'm more scared of them, then actually falling down. I've some experience in riding, as this is not going to be the first time. But I do see your point there, I'll buy everything just not everything at once.
 
My budget is now £300, is it possible to buy a helmet, gloves, jacket or armor with this budget? Its only for 125cc 4T, I'll buy proper gear once I change to a bigger bike :)

Jacket (I'd go textile, most have some sort of armour inserts) ~ £100
Gloves ~ £15
Draggin Jeans (or similar) ~ £80.
Boots ~ £90

Those are prices new. You could probably get everything you'd need (except helmet - buy that new) on ebay for cheaper.

But the only bad thing about buying from the bay, is that I can't try the clothes on. Tomorrow I'll have a look in a shop with motorcycle gear, what sort of gear and prices they have. I can see a lot of RST staff on the bay going cheap :)

I'd actually save a bit on the helmet in your position and put it towards some boots. I spent significantly more on a Shoei which I don't regret, but that money goes towards lighter materials, less wind noise and comfort. A cheaper helmet will still be safe. On a 125 I'm guessing you're knocking about at residential speeds most of the time, so won't necessarily appreciate the benefits of reduced wind noise as much.

Helmet £50 - £100 depending on if you get some textile trousers or kevlar jeans.
Textile jacket £100, usually comes with armour.
Gloves £40
Boots £60
Jeans/Textile trousers £50


As mentioned you can save some money on ebay if you've found out what size you are for everything, obviously don't get a 2nd hand helmet.
