Oh Dear, Virgin ....

I have Virgin Media 60Mbps and I have noticed that its been a tad slow for about a week now...have no idea why though

Even though speedtest says I'm getting 62.75Mbps

I'm completely up to date with my tech, but this has got me baffled. By the way my Internet is so slow I'm using my mobile network on this post. The engineers say everything is fine, Delhi says everything is fine but my wireless speed constantly says 1Mbps and the connection icon has all the bars lit.

Some images i uploaded to photobucket ....

Your local wireless is reporting being connected at 1Mbps from your own screenshot so there is your problem.

Try connecting via ethernet and run another speed test ensuring your wireless is off and report back.

Edit: Could also try changing the wireless channel on the superhub or switching between G and N and check the differences. Do you have any other devices connecting via wifi - it may be worth seeing what speed they get.

As above really, its your wireless that is bottlenecking you from the looks of it.

Your router is probably syncing and receiving full bandwidth like VM confirm, however its not being throughput to your devices as wireless is only at 1Mbps. Try changing wireless channel, or try a few other wireless devices. Failing that, network cable directly into the hub will tell you for sure!

I work in tech support, the amount of people that come on thinking it can't possibly be them. Quite nice to see this :)

Never check a broadbands speed over wireless, always use a cable. The adapters not specifically set to sync at 1mbps is it?

2 engineers and phone support. There tech support seems to be lacking mind lol.

Very strange because I haven't changed any settings on my PC and like I said before my 60MB broadband was working fine.

This morning I've connected the superhub via cable to my laptop and the speeds are averaging between 80-90MB. That's still 25% slower than what I'm paying for.

I downloaded an app that shows me the best wireless channel, not sure how you switch between G and N as I can't see a setting for this.

Thanks anyway for the replies....

So my laptop, my desktop and my chromebook are all running at slow wireless speeds. When connected the speed is about 90MB's.

Am i going nuts or is there a problem with Virgin?

your never going to get 90 on wireless unless your using Very good N A/c equipment

the superhub2 is a medium strength router so its wireless is ok at best.

if you want good wireless speed 90+ you need a good router.

i myself have a superhub2 and wireless is meh. plug in my Asus router it flys

Your wired connection is running at 100Mbps. If you ever want to see the 120Mbps you're paying for you'll need a Gigabit connection.

Your wireless connection is even more limited.

If you're going to use Speedtest.net try to use the same server every time. It'll give you a more useful comparison.

Your connection sounds like it is running good for VM.

Have you tried factory resetting the SH?

As others have said, if you want to see good wireless speeds you will need to buy a decent wireless router and put the SH in modem mode ... i can recommend the Asus RT-N66U worth the money.

on weekdays in the mornings I can get 126Mb speeds even via wireless, with the SH2 + N enabled laptop.

it just depends on the device, if it's b/g or N 300Mb

This. From the 100mb wired ethernet connection this is why you're seeing 80-90, while that 1mb wireless limits your speed even more. I suggest placing the SH in modem mode and buy a much better router that won't bottleneck your speed, such as the Asus N56U/66U, which should help with the wireless side (assuming your laptop's wireless adapter can also handle those speeds as well). As for the ethernet connection I'm pretty sure the SH has gigabit ports, so it must be the ethernet adapter on your laptop. It must be an old laptop though... all the laptops I bought over the past 3 years had gigabit ethernet adapters...
