Merry Christmas, have a tree....

sound crap mate :(
Yup get yer own quotes and assesors and go from there tbh

How much damage was there to the kitchen?
a half decent kitchen or worktop will cost the best part of that.

would also appreciate knowing who the insurance is with, so I can stay away or change.

Urgh - insurance companies. I bet at the moment they've got the entire company working on making pay-outs as minimal as possible. Good luck with that. There's always the ombudsman as well.

Not so much "at the moment" rather the permanent state of things. You would think that when deluged by claims following (say) bad weather they would want to process them quickly and the OP's situation looks pretty clear cut. However, despite all the clever advertising designed to make you think they are special and will care about you when things go wrong, for any sizable claim insurance companies will always look to see if they can avoid paying out or if they do have to pay how to minimise the amount.

Not really a surprise is it, they are a business at the end of the day, if they happily paid out as much as possible for every claim they wouldn't stay in business for very long.

Ohh and to add, when I asked their loss adjuster about labour. He's response, "That was down to me".

Now don't get me wrong, I'm an Electrician by trade (16th, so not current and not part P) however I do Fire/Intruder alarms now. So I'd say I'm pretty good with tools.
However, I am not a; Roofer, Kitchen fitter, plasterer, painter etc and will not be doing this in MY spare time. That really got my back up!

Well keep us updated. It would be interesting just so that if this happens to anyone else and they try to screw them, that this thread can act as some sort of reference and help.

Will do, its a learning curve for myself tbh. Never had to make a claim for anything ever before.

So, just a little update.

Still no work carried out, apart from the boiler and tree removed.

Why you ask?
Well, Asprea, which are the company Aviva use, and I think are partly owned by Aviva funnily enough! Their loss adjuster is taking their time to return phone calls and trying it on with every little trick in the book.

I'm kind of getting annoyed tbqh and as much as the independent loss assessor can do, he can only wait for return phone calls etc.
It has been near two months with a damaged roof now, and I might just threaten Aviva with court action, especially since the weather seems to want to carry on as it is!

That's ridiculous. Talk to a solicitor and get an idea for what your rights are in this situation and what rules you need to play by in order to have a decent chance of winning any court action you need to take.

There should be no need for court action.

Firstly raise a complaint, record all communication (which should include phone calls), send any written correspondence via a trackable service.

Once that doesn't get resolved go to the Financial Ombudsman and get the ball rolling with them, your situation is exactly why it exists.

So, another thing to mention.

Apparently, plumbers are now bricklayers, well that is bassicaly what the loss adjuster is saying.

When the plumbers blocked up the old flue, they noticed and informed me that the bricks and mortar had shattered around where the flue was. Approx 1m2.

Aviva's loss adjuster "Paul Lomas" (yes, silly little man) is claiming now that this should have been rectified when the boiler was replaced.

I am about to go Ape at Aviva, seriously!

Still nothing done to the roof.

I've obviously been in contact with Aviva.

Here is the tldr.

Asprea got their contractors to quote them for the roof works.
Roof works come in at £2933.28 + VAT. Half of which my neighbour has to pay (joint roof)

Aviva & Asprea think their costs are reasonable. I disagree.

I give them quotes for all the works involved including the roof works. In these quotes the roof work costs less than half of what they allowed for and I mention that Asprea's ethics are to be questioned!

They completely ignore what I've said and offer me a final settlement figure of £4688.53 which includes VAT. It needs about another £400. And the VAT to be added to cover the quotes I have received.

So now it needs "Dispute Resolution" as per Aviva.

Yes that was the tldr!

So, I shall be moving all my insurance come renewal, they seem bloody useless.

Lets face it, I am small fry compared to some others that got hit by the storms!

Yikes, I cant remember who we are with, but when we put in a claim earlier this year they basically said "get it sorted and send us the bill".

All we had to show were 3 quotes, and the invoice for the work done and the day after the money was in my account.

Got our insurance renewal today and it reminded me of this. We got a payout 1 month ago for £4688.53 in the end, and after some consultation with another independent, this was going to be the best option.

Needless to say when Aviva wanted double their premiums for our insurance renewal, I was straight onto other insurance companies, and low & behold they come out cheaper (even with me declaring that I have made a claim for approx £7500)

How Aviva can think that making our premiums to £31.58pm from £17.12 quite astounds me, for what is, a tree that fell, that quite literally isn't going to fall again. Their excuse, was that my NCB was the issue.

I did contact Aviva and apparently there is nothing they can do. Really!! So I input the Mrs details into their online quote and it still comes out cheaper, down to ~£25pm

Anyway I'm ditching Aviva, paid another insurance company £167 for the annum, with exactly the same cover. DD will be cancelled. I'll let them waste their paper sending me out letters reminding me etc etc.
