I'm in need of inspiration.

We have a room that has my PC a tv and xbox and will have a sofa soon.

It's the horrible magnolia all new builds are painted in.

It is the next room to be painted but we have no idea what colour.

Are there any good sites for the latest colours and colour combos to look at and find inspiration?

We have a room

This makes it easy.

  • Vase, tall, fill with twigs.
  • Wall, paint with the colour that has the most romantic name "dusky moonlit grey" etc.
  • Shelf one, buy three matching ornaments and arrange in a triangle.
  • Shelf two, buy three matching ornaments and arrange in a line.
  • Buy various trinkets with a love related theme and place on all the other horizontal surfaces.
  • Various framed posters (any old tat) but must be matching in some way.
  • Cushions must be excessively fluffy and be generous in number (at least four cushions per seat).
  • One rug
  • Any remaining space to be filled with vanilla scented candles that coat every surface with such a vile stink that you can't wait to leave in the morning.

Assuming you want to paint and not wallpaper/ wainscote/ tile, get a Johnno's paint catalogue and have a look.

Something which a lot of people are going for now is - room in one colour, then trim in a darker gloss of that colour. Handy because you can use post voc2010 OB paint without it yellowing.

Oh, that must be coming back into fashion then - shame - we're currently decorating the final 2 rooms in the house to get rid of this appalling idea. One room is a medium blue, with dark blue woodwork, the other is what I can only describe as tangerine orange walls with blood-orange woodwork.

That idea isn't new, this house was done like that back in 1995.
It's a bit "look at me" tbh but maybe it looks OK in some houses.

A wife actually. But this is my room with pc and console in so i will not require those.

we have been doing 1 wall a dark colour the rest a neutral colour.

but i have my pc in a corner with back lighting so was going for all the same colour with white ceiling and woodwork.

i just have no idea of colour.

there will be left 4 dead posters framed on one wall and possibly marvel art on the opposite.

think i might go for very dark gray

duck egg and aqua blues are very much in fashion at the moment. You can get some great darker shades of these especially from the Dulux colour mixing range.

My house was painted calico with white satin skirting boards when I got in, everyone loves that, I think it looks so cheap and tacky, like an ikea catalogue or something.

I mean to me, either the trim should be colour coded or it should be a decent hardwood - most of my house is trimmed in black walnut for that reason. But I do like the colour coded, if I was on a budget it's what I'd have.

OP, avoid Dulux like the plague, go for Johnstones trade paints any day. Dulux are garbage compared to what they were 10 years ago.

This?

I have a similar room painted dark grey/slate. It is nice and dark and moody for the gaming sessions but reflects a surprising amount of light during the day.
It also contransts well with the white skirting and black furniture.

I'll try and find the exact name tonight, another forum member used it too, or one similar.
