Who here has it running?

How difficult is it to Custom Install? i ran Steam in Kubuntu, first time in a long time to test the games that i have and are apparently available on SteamOS, that and to test AMD's new Linux Drivers.

but Whats available in Steam in Kubuntu/Ubuntu is not what is apparently in SteamOS, Tomb Raider, BioShok Infinite, ecte...

I want to run the Custom Install as i have no inclination to run it on a 1tb HDD.

PS: AMD's new Linux BETA Driver seems flawless on Kubuntu/Ubuntu, having said that the only game i tested was Team Fortress 2.

I haven't dual booted with linux in a while but I'd imagine little has changed, create partition and install, just make sure the partition is either empty or fat so it can be easily formatted to ext or what evers being used on Linux these days.

Look at something called bcd editor, should be a nice easy tool for adding new entries to windows bcd loader (replaced xp's mbr?) Including Linux distros :)

SteamOS is a Gamers OS, i though the Best people to answers to my questions would be from gamers, Mods can move it if they feel it needs to be ^^^^^

Thanks :)

I'm not going to run it in dual boot replacing the MBR, if something goes wrong with the Linux OS its a pain to get windows back. if i run it i will run it on a completely independent drive

Nothing has changed in Linux. which is why i'm not running it in dual boot. SteamOS is based on Linux but seems to be nothing more than a backup image, a 1tb backup image. read the link :)

You have to use a Custom Install if you just want the OS and whatever else. so i'm asking if anyone has installed it in this way.

Sorry completely missed the link! 1tb is a bit steep isn't it? Unless its pre allocated game space? Unless it just means the automatic installer/loader is set to format to 1tb. Either way custom installer sounds a doddle, much the same as installing any other distro. Will give it a blast when I get hold of a spare ssd.

Bcd editor stops dual boot mishaps with windows boot loader being overwritten, as easy as create Linux partition and assign it to Linux in the bcd editor program :)

Still don't see any point in it currently (Not if you want to actually play games, somewhat ironically, as what you can play natively is very limited)

Once they've got the streaming working perfectly, then I see a point for it on my ultrabook (1080p 11.6") that I can just sit downstairs gaming on, streaming from my PC.

Possibly ask in the games section then? Just thinking of where you would get the best feedback from the most knowledgeable people on the subject.

Agreed at this point, i'm still curious. i'm interested to see how it and the games compare to Windows, given that i have at least 3 AAA titles that apparently also run in SteamOS a comparison test seems in order.

Ah. Thanks Broomstick. :)

While I remember the tool I used to use for dual boot is called easybcd. Am looking for some benches os vs os too :)

i've got steamos beta installed on a dedicated box and its ok, doesnt offer anything different to big picture mode on windows tho atm. As for the games the only major title on my list that works is metro last light, i've got tombraider and bioshock infinite but these dont work as far as i know, i've played through most of metro on it tho and it plays well.
