911 (991) Carrera S review

I love 911's.

I don't know which I would buy one though... 991 C4s is around £80k, which is the same money as a 997 Gen II Turbo S. Both PDK. 530hp vs 400hp...

Much better looking than the previous incarnation imo.

But

5 digit postcode satnav  shame on Porsche.

I think BMW had a similar thing with their sat navs not accepting 7 digit postcodes for quite a while - always seems ridiculous seeing Tom Tom has had it for years.

If you'd said that before the Jaaaaag F-Type Coupé was known about, i would agree. :P

I think i'd take the F-Type R Coupé

I would still take the Porsche, Jag is too overpriced in my opinion.

Corvette C7 has a seven-speed gearbox as well :)

I thought that too but then I realised that post was from year ago when the C7 wasn't out.

What this man said :D I cannot predict the future.

Although my car is due a service in a month or so, can't decide Boxster or Cayman for the day.

Gibbo - have you spent much time driving a 987 Cayman S? If so, how would you compare it to the 997?

I drove a 987 recently and was massive impressed with it on some country lanes - particularly the steering feedback and change of direction compared to the M3. Does the 997 have a similar feel, or is very much GT-like in comparison?

One of the M3's weak aspects is steering feel, even in the CSL. The Boxster, Cayman and 997 knock it into a cocked hat and a 6 GT3 makes you think the steering isn't actually connected to the wheels when you get back into an M3. Most people don't understand steering feel as most modern cars don't do it very well and it takes a run in an older Porsche, Lotus or Noble to show you how good it can be.

Now I have an M3 to compare too. :D

The Porsche rapes it for steering feel in all honesty, also the Porsche is far better weighted, infact the Porsche feels un-assisted when getting out the BMW and getting in the M3.

OK with my modified suspension and geo, the M3 now has some feel for sure, more so then when I got it and I intend on under-driving the PS pump as well with a pulley to increase the weighting, that should help make it a little better.

But in short, you won't beat a 997/987.1 or earlier for steering feel, what made them such great cars, nothing else compares except maybe a Lotus or Noble.
