Audi A4 SE petrol 51 plate - 187,000 miles on the clock
So recently, when I accelerate quickly - I'm not talking foot to the floor here, but it occurs pulling away from lights in 1st or accelerating to overtake while in 5th - it feels like the rev limiter kicks in at 4,000 revs.

I can feel the car engine-braking to such an extent I lurch forward in my seat.

When it occurred the other day on a dual carriageway (not good!) the dashboard engine light flashed for about a minute then went away.

Just passed the MOT - no oil leaks etc. Thought I'd check with you guys before taking it into the garage. Would prefer to know a little about it if possible.

If you need anymore info let me know.

Cheers.

Over the last 2 years all coil packs have been replaced (the last 2 very recently). Car travel has reduced significantly during this time since I commute now. Suppose that doesn't mean there's a dud in there somewhere.

Fuel pump - OK I'll look into that.

Just a thought - but what about water in the engine? I live in the flooded South East and the car's been through some big puddles/mini lakes!

It should have logged a code if the dash light came on.
I'm going with MAF but it could be a number of things.

My first thought is fuel filter, particularly if you have run it really low on fuel recently, although I think the old crud in the tank is far less of an issue as it once was fuel filters are often overlooked and eventually can restrict flow at higher revs.

I had similar issues in my Mondeo that went as far as the engine cutting out. Turned out to be the crankshaft sensor - worth a look too :)

Why the ? That's less than 15k a year :p

Seeing as you put it that way, maybe it's not so bad :). Brilliant car. Can't complain at all. I bought it on 110,000 for £3.5K about 5 or 6 years ago (maybe more). I remember posting some pics on here at the time and members saying it was a good deal. The high mileage worried me at the time.

But apart from pads and discs I've not had any probs. Not even the exhaust or clutch!

Get yourself a 10quid OBD2 bluetooth adapter and plug it in. Download Torque lite on android for free and run a fault code scan. That's the cheapest way to find out for sure.
