Asus 290X DCII vS 780Ti overclocked

I felt terrible after i sold my 290X and popped in a 780Ti, i expected a noticeable increase in performance, but what i got was the same performance.

On the plus side the build quality of the 780Ti is incredible, felt extremely well made, looks epic and runs quiet.
Yep I'm pleasantly surprised with it. I have it running at 1200Mhz on the stock cooler and it doesn't even get that loud, ~2300rpm.

...

Yeah, well...you...whatever. ¬_¬.

Actually in fairness Geemans Classy GTX is on air, as is Dicehunters card ;)

Again though it's a tease, absolutely nothing in it in the grand scheme of things

but but but but I hear them shouting. Sleeping dogs is owned by nVidia, Tomb Raider is owned by nVidia, Heaven is owned by nVidia, Valley is owned by nVidia...... Mwahahahahahaha :p:p:p

Ohhh and just to clarify, they perform admirably in games (780/290/780ti/290X) and without running fraps bench viewer, you wouldn't have a clue what was the fastest.

Say that again fella? Didn't understand a word. :p

EDIT

Ah ok you edited your post. That makes sense. What scores did you get? You on the ref cooler?

Sorry pal using my phone and either my thumbs are too big or my phone is to small:( results in me writing like that.:D

Ran it at 1225/1625 manage one run before blackscreens started to appear, i got between 86-90fps, not posting yet as i know the core will do more, just need it to snow.. all on Ref cooler pal.

Lol Nice. That should put the cat amongst the pigeons. Good old reference cooler. :p

I just wish some more people had them under water or such. Would see a lot more at the top of the leaderboards, aside from the Unigine benches of course.

To be fair, if you was buying just 1 of these gpu's, either would be a nice buy. The issue for me was the noise of 2x 290x compared to 2x 780 ti, as you'd have to watercool the amd cards were as the nvidia solutions are far more quiet and controlled. Thats the only reason I'd choose the nvidia cards over amd with the current top level stuff though.

Even then James if you really want to push the Ti you need to increase the fan profile.

Reason I finally decided to scrap the 780ti ref cooler was in SLi they used to throttle hard even at stock, and with the fan profile ramped up to combat this it was annoyingly loud.

Water just makes so much sense, and I doubt I'll ever go back to air cooling in the same way I haven't for CPUs for at least 8 years now. Even my Northwood P4 was on water :). Actually make that at least 10 years!

Yep i need 55% fan speed on my 290 Pro crossfire, stock 975/1250 (3% overclock from typical stock 290) to stop throttling. Adding a second card into the mix, even with a blower/exhaust type cooler just adds a load more heat. I've just decided to accept some throttling now (never thought id say that) so i can run a quiet fan profile of 47-50%. I find the core will throttle down to around 947+ so only losing a couple of percent performance i suppose.

Yeah, they do it for a reason at the end of the day but it is annoying. With BF4 at 1440P ultra if I disabled Vsync or any frame limiter my cards in 3 way would throttle to around 500mhz core. That is seriously pants lol. I mean it would take a while, but it was still doing it.

Where as now with core temps not exceeding 40c typically, even when achieving my highest overclock the clocks don't drop at all with the power limit removed on water

Yeah that's ridiculous. I forgot you had three cards though so im sure if i added a third id get the same. A few percent you can put up with cos you'll never notice it in game, but that kind of clock drop is extreme enough to notice.

I think i would notice G, if it was the 780 my settings would stay the same, 780ti i could get everything on ultra and maintain 120fps so it would look a touch prettier and if i was on an AMD card the screen would be black so it dosn't matter what fps i get!!! :p

Bad man :p

I was just empathising with the Lidl crew :D

There are endless 290X vs 780TI reviews out there, some show the 780Ti ahead others the 290X.

This is just another reviewer, its astonishing how a single reviewer not even using Apples for Apples comparisons can get people so worked up about these GPU's.

Whats so special about this particular one? other than their testing methods resulting in the 780TI with a larger lead.

Who's getting worked up? lol

Actually with three cards it's barely noticeable as you're still averaging above 60 frames for the most part. It's obviously not what you want when you know what they're capable of though. Also in other games like AC4 for example, it would be very noticeable

Gregster is just baiting with these threads, long and short of that review is basically 780ti is no better than the 290x they used and more expensive, in gaming perspectives.

If your arguing about overclocked cards then you are just moving the goalposts to suit your argument.

I will say it again, AMD 290 cards are currently the best pound spent for performance gained, colour it anyhow you wish but thats the truth

lol jesus.

Is this you reading the article by any chance, SiDeards?

*ASDA jingle*

It's priced higher putting it out of some peoples comfort zones, but it was brought out as a response to the 290X because it's marginally quicker, not always but more often than not. I'm sorry but counselling at this point is your only option :D.
