Google-Motorola "X Phone" in the 2013 pipeline?

There probably will be but depends on how long 'near' can be in the scheme of things. T'other thing is would it be a US release followed by the rest of us waiting another 6 months before deciding to ship it here

I probably shouldn't be defending a massive company like google, or even motorola but just for the sake of facts I want to check you do know that the late release here wasn't motorola's decision right?

If Vodafone for example were falling over themselves to range this, it would have been here.

Awkward retailers = late release date, yes they could have moved direct web sales here I'm sure but thats really not the aim in these sorts of releases, motorola needs to stand on its own feet so it can't dick about like google with the nexus programme.

Yes ..... but someone has to be kicked ;)

In honesty I used think it was down to Motorola but as has been pointed out in the past here and elsewhere, it's down to the retailers/telco's. You'll not be surprised that I know squat about the mobile phone retail market :o

Lol, well its quite dull. But trust me, just like supermarkets treat food manufacturers like scum, every retailer does it to their supply base to some extent.

So I could absolutely see a world where mobile retailer/network A says "yes motorola, we'll list your new moto X but you need to agree to paying $$$$$$ in marketing funds" and motorola, flush with google cash were all "no chance, you buy it because you want it not because we've paid you to list it"

And the conversation last year ended there.

Since then they've launched the G which the retailers really had to buy because of the price/proposition and thats opened the door to renegotiating the listing of X, presumably because motorola can now negotiate on a more level footing because they'll be talking about Moto X2 and Moto G2 which the retailers probably assume they "have" to have now.

Capitalism man..

I too feel your pain :D

It's an addiction that seems to take over every once in a while and I can't shake it off! :D

That's exactly what I was thinking...they would never release an update so close to the UK launch because we'd be hard done by. If there was an update in the pipeline surely Moto would've waited an released an updated version by passing the original Moto X.

When I saw the post earlier about being 16gigs only it was as that point I thought that's it, any interest I had in the Moto X completely evaporated but then I too saw on the Motorola website that 32gigs would be available 'online' Not so much bothered about Moto maker as my choice is any colour so long as it's black :D

True and there's always the Dbrand skins option if you want customisation, which is a win win in any case.

My saga with the HTC One goes on. Managed to charge it as per normal and once done did boot ok though after 60 seconds went into boot loop. I've contacted HTC regards repair and waiting to hear back. Thought I'd see it it could boot into 'Boot menu' but was unable to do a factory reset which I'd hope would wipe it before sending to HTC. It was at this point I noticed the dreaded 'Tampered' at the top of the screen. I've personally left it stock and sort of got the impression the guy I bought it off on ebay had done the same. I'll guess now that I don't have a receipt and the tampered message I may well be up that dirty creek without a paddle

Kind of got me thinking that of the phones I've had which have mainly been HTC or Motorola it has always been the HTC's that have failed and been sent back for repair. Always under warranty but kind of not the point. All the Moto's have never failed apart from the broken screen on the Razr HD which would have to be down to me.

Goggling the HTC One symptoms and came across a couple of posts with same symptoms and cure was to replace the battery. May not be a too costly fix should I have to pay.

I ended up going through 4-5 HTC One's which had some kind of defect and gave up in the end. As much as it's an awesome phone, HTC have somehow botch it up in terms of build quality. I hope you've got the battery problem sorted by now, if not the 1st Feb isn't too long to wait and if money's a constraint the Moto G is a very decent alternative as a back up phone for the time being and it doesn't break the bank.

So I'm 99% that I'm going to be buying the Moto X when the 1st Feb comes around, the only thing that will stop is that if for some strange reason the 32Gb version isn't released here.

In anticipation I've bought a couple of cases, screen protector and a nano sim adapter. I can't wait to see what the X is lke.

Why a nano sim adapter? It takes a nano sim? In fact its the only other phone I've come across that takes the iPhone size nano sim.

yes I know that which is why I was asking why you've got a nano sim adapter in preparation for the X because you don't need one for that as it already takes the smallest sim available? Have you already got a nano sim that you're adapting up to whatever you have now?

:o Ignore me, I misread your questions as actual questions

Cos currently I have a micro sim and when I ask my operator for a nano sim I can use the nano sim with adapter in my N5 :)

got you.. phew! Just wanted to make sure it all went smoothly, its totally worth it!

Although bloody AT&T not letting me unlock the bootloader even though I didn't buy the phone from them, I'm not in the states and I don't want or have a warranty has gotten under my skin.

US telco is so broken in this respect its ridiculous.

Well, knowing how supermarkets carry on with their suppliers I shouldn't be surprised that the mobile phone retail sector should behave any different. Good on Motorola for not bending over but for sure it'd do them no good.

Ha - you're committed now. Not unlike myself hoping I'll still be using a HTC One as bought a case/skin off of Ebay for £2 and only had it a week or two  Couldn't get on with the Otterbox Commuter case I originally bought.

I've got my One booked to go back to HTC and hoping the repair will be under warranty. Build quality of mine has been fine and hoping it comes back like that. Bought it second hand off Ebay so have no original receipt and I noticed it says 'tampered' on the boot menu which I was sure it wasn't when I first got it (could be wrong). I've not unlocked or rooted it. HTC support say there will be no cost so long as there is no 'illegal' rom loaded.

Moto G isn't an option really due to the 16gb limit. If all goes wrong with the HTC, I might well buy a Moto X though it would have to be a 32gig. Does say on the Motorola website that the 32GB version will be available online only though no price has been mentioned to date.

I know I wasn't exactly clear with what I was saying in the first place!

I guess that's one of the issues with buying a phone from another market it doesn't allow you to do as you please with the handset. In my mind if Moto had released the MotoX worldwide from day one we wouldn't go to the extreme lengths of importing phones into the UK.

I am committed but got this rather shocking and ambiguous email from Motorola UK:

Dear xxxx,

Thank you for contacting Motorola.

Further to your previous e-mail we would like to inform you that we do not currently have any official information regarding the release date and further availability of Moto X 32GB in the UK.

We would like to advise you to check periodically our website http://www.motorola.co.uk/consumers...to-x-gb.html?gclid=CL2l3JGHlLwCFfPItAodpAsAcQ in order to be always updated with new releases.

WTF? how can you not know if a phone that's about to launch imminently will come as a 32Gb option or not? Less than two weeks away and surely you would have some solid info. Pull your socks up Motorola.

Did you send off your HO to HTC? If so have you heard anything back from them?

It's a bit naughty for the seller on eBay not to mention that they tampered with the phone and installed a custom ROM.

hang on hang on I'll see if I can find out when it's coming, stand by for info :)

EDIT: Q2 apparently, sorry people! Although for what its worth I do get on fine with 16gb, when I'm using my S4 with a 32gb card I fill it, when I use 16gb I fill it etc etc.

LOL - all it says on the website is that the 32GB version will be available online. Doesn't say when though. I suspect another wait for some. Though I take on board what Matt says about Moto and the UK retailers, Motorola don't help themselves either it would seem?

Yes. They offered to have it picked up but as away during the day this week I sent it Special Delivery. Stupidly I thought it would be delivered the next day before 1pm but SD actually means 'chuck it in the back of the post van and we'll deliver sometime when we can be arsed'

With luck the PO will lose it and I'll claim £500 for it

So HTC not received it yet and can't say if they are going to be sticky about warranty.

Par for the course for Ebay. It was supposed to have been used instead of an iPhone and the owner said he couldn't get on with it and went back to iPhone and put the HTC on Ebay.. It was stock when I got it both locked and un rooted. I've not bothered to even root it myself and certainly not unlocked. At the boot menu it shows 'tampered' but when I reset/wiped it around Christmas when it first went into boot loop I don't remember seeing the tampered message  Can't be 100% sure though as I was steamed up about it boot looping

In honesty I'll take some persuading to move to a Moto X from the HTC One.

you know you can normally relock and reset the counter on a HTC using RUU files I think. I did that to a HTC One S, you don't register the bootloader as being unlocked I think.
