Hi guys,

Now there is a plethora of R9 290's and 290x's available I am confused as to what to go for. The Sapphire Tri x looks awesome, but the MSI has longer warranty and is cheaper, The Gigabyte is same price and warranty as MSI... its all so confusing!

So taking into account everything (price/performance/overclocking ability/sound levels and so on).

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you gave me the money to have any card 290 card right now it would be the MSI 290X lighting, closely followed by either 290X or 290 Pro version of the Sapphire 290 Tri X card. Cool, quiet and from every report i hear of it (review or user) extremely overclockable.

Thanks Matt, the MSI is a good price on OCUK right now and does look to be a very capable card. Wasn't sure if going for a cheaper 290 non x and crossfire them would be better? (don't think I could stretch to 2 MSI 290x's).

Sapphire is the pick of the bunch but the MSI cards are every bit as good. Cheaper as well. Can't go wrong with either tbh. If money was no object though, it would be the sapphire for me x2.

I'd avoid the Asus DCII.

The extra year warranty on the MSI is nudging me towards that I must admit. Do any of the cards include games or has the never settle offer ended now?

1, Asus
2, MSI
3, GB

Not on the 290 and 290x cards currently mate, Asus DirectCU II OC apparently doesn't have all the heat pipes on the cooler contact the GPU. I believe theres only 3 of the 5 that make contact and shabby contact at that. Also looking at reviews the card runs warmer than others such as MSI, GB, sapphire, etc so I would put it at the bottom of the latter until they fix it.

Personally I would go with Matt's advice! I was going to buy the either the Sapphire TriX or the MSI gaming edition but i'm waiting to see the MSI Lightning 290x first before I jump in.

Looking at my money situation I am torn between 1 MSI 290 X gaming edition which is £429, or 2 x MSI 290's (reference) with Battlefield 4 which I don't actually have and is £660?

Advice please!

if you get the reference ones make sure you watercool them! and there is a high chance you will get black screen issues
get the msi 290 or X oc as everyone has said, its very nice and runs sweet

Sapphire R9 290 Tri-x battlefield 4 edition comes with the free game, that's what I ordered and I'm getting it delivered tomorrow
