hi guys i'm thinking of buying a new GPU for gaming and not sure which one i should go for the msi r9 290 twin frozr or the gigabyte radeon r9 290 oc windforce?

I've read mixed reviews on the gigabyte one about it has cooler issues to the point where they stopped making them and almost nothing about the MSI one.

also need to think about watercooling later so need to think about there PCB's

what do you guys think?

specs
750D
Sabertooth Z87
i7 4770k
AX760

The Gigabyte was a bad batch and I believe that is sorted now. As for both of those, they are both good brands, so go with the cheapest :)

ok cool, so the question is which one has a ref pcb for waterblock?
if none of them then i need other options..

does anyone here own one oh these cards?

Msi if you want 3 year warranty and a back plate, failing that the sapphire.

Reading this will put you off gigabyte and asus:

Don't buy a reference for £330-340

wow! thanks for the link mate!

i'm lucking that i've got a corsair 750D, 360mm EK XTX in the roof and a EK XTX in the front in an 18w DDC pump

that's why i've waited :P

The Gigabyte is on a refernce PCB but the MSI Gaming edition isn't, so that narrows it down :)

Why not save a few pounds and grab a reference 290?

tbh the cooler alone make me feel sick lol

now i really need to re-think this...

I got the MSI 290 Gaming Edition yesterday and have been happy with its mining and it's not too noisy. At full load the fans are at 64% the card at 85c and it is barely louder than my case fans.

Not had time to game with it yet, shall be remedying that as soon as I can decide which game from my library to play!

Yer, I was just assuming you would go water sooner rather than later, so hence the reference links.

I know this might sound a bit stupid, but a can't spend over £300 on a gpu knowing i'm going to be sick as soon as i see it :P

also i'll be using for a few weeks/months 1st before i get a waterblock, might as well do it when i'm draining and cleaning the system right?

oh right, let me know when you start playing game and start overclocking :)

go for the msi mate its a beast!

do you have? if so how long have you been running for?

are you going to bench it or game on it 1st?

i aint a bencher or big over clocker just like to game and be able to run on ultra :) dont think it will have any problem running maxed out at 1080p

i will slightly want to overclock it, but modest one, like 1100mhz on gpu and say 5200-5400mhz on memory , anyone think that can be done on stock voltage ?

Thanks

Am doing that with my Gigabyte Windforce at stock volts. Can actually do 1,110 / 5800

I imagine most of the 290's will do at least 1,100 / 5400 with proper cooling.

I also don't have to mess about with afterburner to get my card to run as it should.
