OK so at 9.2 quintillion to 1 it seems rather unlikely (and I'll confess to knowing nothing about the game in question) but if the entry is free it's surely better than playing the lottery, although sadly it seems only eligible to US citizens :()...

So if you won, would you take the 40 year $25m installment plan or the $500m one off payment. I think I'd rather take the latter given Buffet's age :D

I was going to read that article...but then i noticed the cheerleader gallery at the bottom and now there's no chance I'm going back.

What a moronic idea
pick some extremely unlikely event, win more money than can be spent sensibly.

Good for makers of celebrity champagne, bad for Fusion* research

*insert your worthwhile project here

Just for your info, Warren Buffet is one of the most well known philanthropists on the planet...

In a letter to Fortune Magazine's website in 2010 Buffett remarked:

My luck was accentuated by my living in a market system that sometimes produces distorted results, though overall it serves our country well... I've worked in an economy that rewards someone who saves the lives of others on a battlefield with a medal, rewards a great teacher with thank-you notes from parents, but rewards those who can detect the mispricing of securities with sums reaching into the billions. In short, fate's distribution of long straws is wildly capricious.

This statement was made as part of a joint proposal with Bill Gates to encourage other wealthy individuals to pool some of their fortunes for charitable purposes.

Bill Gates's wife Melinda urged people to learn a lesson from the philanthropic efforts of the family that sold its home and gave away half of its value, as detailed in The Power of Half.[135][136] On December 9, 2010, Buffett, Bill Gates, and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, signed a promise they called the "Gates-Buffett Giving Pledge", in which they promised to donate to charity at least half of their wealth over time, and invited others among the wealthy to donate 50% or more of their wealth to charity

Yes, and this idea is still moronic.

If someone wins, it would be the stupidest waste of money ever.

Hey Tony Williams, you've just won $1,000,000,000, what are you going to spend it on?

Yes, and this idea is still moronic.

I was just pointing out that Buffet does a lot more with his money than offering unlikely gambling prizes. In other words, given how much he gives away to good causes I don't think you can really have a pop over him over this potential, but unlikely prize which is dwarfed by the amount he will give away in total..

If someone wins, it would be the stupidest waste of money ever.

Not really, he's already devoted to giving away half his wealth the charity (around $29 bn) and he's one of the few people on the planet who a billion is small change. Besides, surely giving away a billion to a non-billionaire is less of a waste than just sitting in his bank account doing nothing but gaining interest and making Buffet even richer.

I'm not sure you can say for sure its a waste of money at this point... assuming someone did win it its rather unknown what they would do with it.
