Maybe looking replace my Mk1 Focus TDCI soon as I need something more comfortable, roomy and more motorway friendly. Would like to be able to average 45+mpg. Any suggestions?

My suggestion is a Superb, I won't link to any as there's plenty to choose from on AutoTrader: 4-6k, Diesel 1.7-1.9L. You choice of Spanish or DSG.

Skoda appeals more than a Mondeo. But I think Superbs are out of my budget sadly. I want something very reliable, if it has to go into the garage then I have to take my Evo and if I work in Hampshire that's a 180 mile round trip and over half a tank of Super gone.

180 miles and that's only over half a tank? Your Evo is pretty economical compared to my Scooby then

That's amazing! I'd love to know just how much money the owner has spent on diesel over that time!

That's if I take it really easy. Realistically I'll be going to a petrol station at the end of the day.

Facelift Superb is out of budget clearly.
What about a Mk1? 130 pd tdi is bombproof and the long wheel base makes for a very comfy ride. Find a Laurin and Clement and you've got all the spec you'd ever want.

I'd take that over a Mondeo TDCI.

Why get a scabby Mk2 when there are plenty of nice Mk 1s?
It's effectively a Chinese Passat which is no bad thing. You know what you're getting.
