Hi all, the Mrs is taking her lessons at the moment, just wondering if there are any insurers who are generally better for new drivers (i.e. in price) or who don't try and bum rape you senseless with what they're asking for?

Or is it a case of no matter who she goes with in her first year, she better lube up?

Go to a comparison website first and see who's cheapest, most likely the E.U.I group: Admiral, Bell, Elephant, Sheila's Wheels. Also try Aviva and Direct Line who are not on comparison sites. Once you know who's cheapest go direct to their website or phone them direct! :).

If she has had a provisional licence for a number of years, try Aviva. They ask how long you had a licence, including the time you've had your provisional.

They were about £400 cheaper for me, when I got my first policy.

I found this group to be the cheapest for me so I went with admiral. Passed in Feb, got a car and insurance in May (Insurance was £790, I was a 22 year old). I held my provisional for maybe 18 months prior to that but I don't think they took that into account.

Try Aviva and get a quote via Quidco/Topcashback and get £75 back. I'm far from a new driver but when I renew my insurance they are always the cheapest.

Everyone says admiral yet they always want nearly double what I end up paying.

They are for me now, too, unless it's something high performance. They'll insure me on TVRs, Ferraris for about £1000, but want £700 for my MX5 when my renewal for this year is looking to be under £300 with TheInsuranceLine (Aviva/Swinton).

Admiral for me, by and far the cheapest since I was 18 (at 17 Direct Line was the cheapest but since then they have been extortionate).

Tesco insurance was cheap for me this time around. Over 200 cheaper than the best Admiral group could do (and they were unwilling to price match, so lost a customer)

Sky insurance is pretty good (not related to the tv company)

i've used them for a number of years, they always quote me better than anywhere else

atm i pay around 500 for my rx8

Try Admiral or any of them within that group, been with them for 4 years since I was 20 and every time someones cheaper they match it or go a little less.

Never claimed so cant comment on that side of things.
