which R9 290? MSI or GIGABYTE?

have you ran Valley Benchmark? i would love to see the score! :D

Yeah have run all the benchmarks inc Firestrike, Firestrike Extreme, Heaven and here is me best so far with Valley.

Cpu was at stock speed/volts.

Valley at these settings is fairly much gpu bottlenecked so as long as you have a decent processor to start with overclocking doesn't really improve things much.

oh ok cool, i was just asking, because i got 4.4 at 1.150v and i'm not sure if that's any good or not

the max i got running is 4.9 at 1.375v

and what case cooling you have :p
but yes..easily but you will have to do the afterburner work around fix which locks the core and memory in game and OUT OF game, in other words it wont down clock it
im running
core 1100
memory 1400
stock volts

hi, its a fractal DEFINE R4 case with noctua system fans and a noctua NH D14 , case is great so think should be fine with cooling

your settings are exact i would settle for, im reading the thread
MSI R9 290 / 290x gaming edition - powertune throttling the core clock discussion , will hopefully give it a go tomorrow :)

Yeah you should be very pleased with that :)

tbh, the problem i got with that is i can run any games because of heat issues and 4.4 is more then enough for me after about 2 hours of gaming the max temp is 55° to 60°

i think i got 4.6 at 1.250v temp was 80° and 4.8 at 1.325v or 1.350v temp was 95°

i really need to find someone in london who has exp at deliding lol :D

You really needn't worry about trying to run your 4770K overclocked that high as you are gpu bottlenecked anyway.

I am running my 4770K at stock speed whilst gaming with a 290X and this is enough to ensure the 290X runs at 100% when needed.

i know, to me it's just a bit of fun :D i don't have a gpu atm lol

just thinking is it worth waiting for more gpu's to come out/in stock or just get a GTX 780?

If your going with Nvidia then yeah the 780 is a superb card.

Thought it was a 290 though that you are looking at?

What is the difference in the noise the fans make between the Gigabyte and MSI? I've heard the MSI is louder than the Gigabyte? Has anybody heard either of these?

Sorry to highjack thread here, but I'm also looking for a new card and currently thinking of getting an R9 290.

Don't buy a reference for £330-340

Why wouldn't you get a reference card? How about if it was around £300?

I would only really be using mine for gaming once in awhile. I've always had Nvidia cards but with the price of this being much cheaper then the 780 is swaying me and the fact these have 4GB which should help over multi monitors?

ok could you really spend over £300 on a card know when you finally get your hand on it, set it all up knowing the cooler was **** and heat up all the other parts in your rig?!

That's why I'm asking on here, I wasn't aware the cooler was that bad on it. Does it in any way damage the card or shorten its life?

My rig in general runs pretty cool, I have plenty of case fans and like I said, it will hardly ever run at full load as I only have time for an hour or two of gaming a week, max!

I've never spent over £150 on a card, never really felt the need to but since I recently picked up another Dell (3 in total now), my GTX 760 is feeling it. I know the R9 290 is a big step up and if I get one, I intend to keep it for at least 2-3 years. I can't decide whether its worth paying £50-£80 extra for a better cooled one?

watch TTL's review on the R9 290X and see how bad the ref cooler is.
