Sorry, I know I have the 'Car Recommendations' thread, but now the Mazda 3/6 sport is top of my list.

Just wondering who has one and what are your thoughts/concerns/advice? I'm looking at the 2.0 petrol sport model of either. Hoping to find a 2010 model or newer under £10k with toys :D

Would love the 3 MPS but getting one in my budget would be tough and kind of makes selling my VXR for partly economical reasons pointless.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on either the 3 or the 6 :)

I've had my '07 3 Sport since the end of October, obviously the previous gen to the one you're looking at so I doubt this is particularly helpful, but it's a great car nonetheless. Looks great, well-specced, plenty quick (compared to my previous 1.6 Astra) and not very common at all either, up here at least.

I really like the 6, personally think it looks a lot nicer than the Mondeo, and you get the same level of equipment too.

Not really, the 6 doesn't have things like active cruise control, and in Sport trim doesn't have Nav. Parking sensors aren't even standard. The only trim to have the latter two options as standard is Venture and I can't find any on Autotrader.

My friend has a Mazda 6 2.5L Sport and it's a decent car but he agrees that it's not as good as a Mondeo. 10k would get you a well-spec'ed 2L Ecoboost Mondeo Titanium X Sport.

That's the mondeo I was looking at but a few people have warned me about reliability issues. Prefer the look and style of the Mazdas I think. Not sure if I need a car as big as the Mazda 6, hence the indecision between the 3 and 6.

Liking these:

Are the 0-60 times on that Mazda3 right? 10.4s for a little hatchback with 150bhp? that seems awful slow!

Mines the 1.6 which is admittedly slower at something like 11.3 to 60, but it has absolutely no oomph whatsoever.

MPS?

The 6's had nav and CC, AWD to boot too.

I'd love one but prices seem to have crept up over the last 6 months for some reason and theres none local'ish to me for a decent price.

They seem to get slower with each instalment. I have a 06 sport 2.0 that does 8.9 seconds the face lift version was 9.1 seconds but the engine itself for me has plenty of power on tap can spin the wheels up very easily and has a good power band. I'm waiting for a low mileage 2014 Mazda 3 they look far superior and are a little faster with the 2.2 diesel 180ish ps

why don't you just get an older MPS model and save some moeny.
I've seen on Autotrader a few 2009 MPS models. with less than 30,000 on the clock. A few slightly onlder models with less than 45,000. All for under £10,000.

Really like this one myself

I've got a 2007 Mazda6 2.3 Sport which seem quite rare there arent many for sale, this is what attracted me to it

Its not fast but its not irritatingly slow either, I like the interior and the Bose stereo is awesome

Mine is for sale at the moment as it was a temporary car that's served its purpose but if it doesnt sell I'll keep it for a few more months, as a reliable and practical hatchback its very good but I want more power again

As an alternative consider the Civic 2.0 Type-S 5 door, 160BHP similar performance to the Mazda

The Mondeo also doesn't have Nav as standard

Takuya model has front and rear parking sensors, heated leather seats, Cruise Control and Bluetooth as standard.

The Mondeo can be spec'ed more highly than the Mazda. The Takuya doesn't have parking sensors as standard. Anyway, the OP is on about the Sport trim which again doesn't have the latter as standard. I also never said Sat Nav was standard on a Mondeo, just that it was available as an option unlike on the Mazda where it was only introduced two years ago on their Venture trim.

The Mazda 6 is a very nice, comfortable and good looking car but my point is, you can have far more equipment in a Mondeo.

Pretty much all of those are a must for me. They're luxury toys I've been used to in the VXR (except the parking sensors - I'm a man, I don't need em :p )

I definitely prefer the look of the Mazda, and a few people (also mechanics at my trusted garage) have said a few bad things about the modern mondeo, especially the diesel model.

This looks lush
