Hi all,

I'd appreciate if you could take a look at these two designs and let me know which looks better, a three seater sofa and a chair, or a corner. The doors at the top are double patio doors with windows either side. The left door is an understairs cupboard and the bottom door leads to the hallway.

3+1 - Linky
Corner - Linky

I've used Planner5D so you can see the layout and then go into 3D mode and zoom into the room and move around using WASD. (Colours yet to be determined, this is just for show).

3+1 leaves the right side of the room a bit cramped for the dining room table (small table that expands as required).

The corner means there can't be a above-the-tv storage as currently shown as there is a radiator behind the tv. This leaves some storage issues but the understairs cupboard (next to the enclave) is pretty big so I can always use that for things other than hoover and replace the storage above the TV with a long, short set of photos.

Thanks

Think your limited a bit like us (if your house design is the same, and it looks like it is) - the TV points are next to the TV in the 3+1 set up, as are power sockets. Theres only one socket on the other side of the room, I think?

Top photo, I would keep the 3+1 , but put it where tv is located, &
tv in recess, & the seperate armchair in it's present spot.

Corner settee idea doesn't work at all, to restrictive.

Cheers for the feedback so far guys.

Here's the plan with your suggestion. Unfortunately I think it makes the living room look like just sofas from the doorway so I think one of the two options above is the only choice. I take it you prefer the 3+1 in that case?

That's right, but I'd ran a TV extension cable over/under the patio door frame and use a surge block for power. If you have a similar setup is their any chance you can share a photo? It would be good to see how other people are doing it.

What about corner unit in recess.

Unfortunately the recess is 236cm so the corner wouldn't fit. I tried looking for some three with a chaise on the third seat too but they were all too big.

It's really annoying how they've designed the room as the understairs cupboard could have easily been a lot smaller and opened up the living room more.

Three seater plus footrest would have the same effect but then the coffee table/anything that can be used to hold drinks looks cramped.

The corner sofa doesn't have an end on the short but so that shouldn't close it off too much. I just think the space either side of the tv would be slightly wasted and I'm not sure if I could wall mount the storage above the TV due to the radiator.

Struggling to find any recommendations/images of people who have done similar.

Apparently my neighbour is going for a corner too (new builds).

I did a job nearly 20 years, making a under stairs cupboard smaller, took the wall down & moved it about 762mm, to make more room in the lounge for the exact same problem your having.

3 + 1 definitely, corner sofas are crap, oh look, mr sat in the corner has his legs hanging half off but not able to reach the floor.

Plus you can't beat an armchair.

Ours is exactly the same as your 3+1, except we have a 2 seater sofa where the single chair is, and a table behind it. There is enough room in the space between the cupboard and french doors/windows to put a 3 seater sofa and a chair if that helps.

I was thinking that too until I realised were they put the electric main box... right in the corner of the cupboard :(

Cheers. I'll plan it out and see what it looks like.
