Need help with Z77X-UP7/3770K overclocking

Bit of a noob question this, I'm trying to see if my 3770K is worth delidding, I thought I'd give it a P95 run at 4.5Ghz at 1.2V to see what the temps are like. However, I can't get 1.2V to stick in BIOS, it's currently running away quite happily at 56-64 degrees at 4.5 with 1.332V going through it. What am I doing wrong?
 
sub 70c with 1.33v its impressive id say delidding isnt worth doing, mine is at mid 70s with only 1.23v @ 4.5ghx while under water, i really need to do a delid but ive not got the stones
 
That's the problem, I'd like to get the voltage down to make sure it's stable, I'd like to hit 5Ghz with this puppy, just fitted a new 360 and 280mm rad, most of the people who have delidded say it's only worth doing if your chip can stay happy at 4.5 with 1.2ish volts chucked up it, but I can't make the settings stick in BIOS :(
 
Bear in mind this isn't my PC, it's got : i7 3770K, Gigabyte Z77X-UP7 mobo, 4 x 8Gb Gskill Trident X memory @2400Mhz, 2 x Nvidia Titan GPUs, EK waterblocks for CPU and GPUs, a 360mm ocool rad with 3 Scythe GT fans, a 280mm ocool rad with 2 x 140mm fans (can't remember make), and an XSPC twin D5 dualresevoir/pump combo in a Bitfenix Shinobi XL case. Hope that lot helps :)
 
if its not applying the settings in bios you need to reflash the bios and then try

loadline calibration affects the cpu v also

try setting cpu v to normal,medium loadline calibration and dvid set to +0.025v

then see what load cpu v is
 
yh if your carefull and don't kill the cpu,if temps are fine though I wouldn't risk it

test with gaming aswell,they will crash to desktop if cpu v is too low,even after passing prime95

you'd need a pretty golden chip to do 5ghz 24/7,have mine at 4.8ghz with 1.38v and temps don't go above 80c with silver arrow air cooler

you also need to use coolaboratory liquid pro on the die and under the heatsink cooler to see lower temps after delidding
 
OK. I've got some liquid ultra, thinking about the vice method, don't trust myself enough with a blade, esp. as it's not my chip :) He wants 5, so I'll try to give him 5. Have had this one running at 4.9 before the rads were upgraded, so I should get 5 delidded (I hope) :)
 
look at the hairdryer method on youtube aswell,that to me seems the best/easiest way

you might do 5ghz with watercooling,me personally I don't like to go above 1.4v cpu voltage
 
Haven't seen that one. Might be worth a try. Cheers for the advice on voltages, dropped my temps down by 20ish degrees :) I'll post results up as I get them...
 
OK, update time. Decided to go ahead and delid, using the vice method. Worked like a charm, needed a bit more welly than I thought! Now running at 4.7 on P95, temps are between 53 and 56 degrees :) Woot! Thanks for your help guys, now to let it bed in for a bit, then 5Ghz, here I come (hopefully)...

Just go for it. What do you mean by bed in? I've got one that does 5GHz at 1.36v rock solid and will bench at 5.2+ that's on a not so great board. What's considered good voltage for one of these at 5GHz?
 
I've only just delidded, about 2 hours ago. I don't want to push too hard, too quickly...

(Edit) As far as voltages go, no idea at all, I'm learning as I go on this one, this is waaaaaay outside my normal comfort zone :)
