Spec me: Graphics card for 1440p gaming.

I'm looking to get a Nvidia graphics card for 1440p gaming that will let me play games at max/ultra. I don't really want to spend more than £600.

I tried out the R9 290 but the drivers wouldn't play well and I kept getting black screens so rather not go there again.
 
The 4gb ones are £10-30 more than the 2gb one on the OcUK store, why is it not worth the premium then? Sure the memory bus is a bit lacking now but given the OP does not want AMD cards and has a budget of £600, I figured that was his best bet.
 
Yea even a 780Ti struggles to play certain games at 1440p on max settings whilst maintaining 60FPS although I can play a few at 1440p max settings whilst maintaining 60FPS+ Id say two 280x but seen as the OP doesn't want AMD I would suggest two 770s for that budget but seen as they are 2gb you would be hitting Vram limits very quickly unless you opt for 4gb models. Or possibly do what arc@css said and get a 780 then get another down the line later.
 
I think i'll go for the 780's. Now which one is the question. Should I really get the MSI just because it's on offer or are some of the others better for OC or noise for £10-£20 more?
 
There are just a few games out there that can slow a 780 TI down, but not many, and i only own two games that is capable of this though im yet to try and confirm this, and that game is Crysis 3 and Farcry 3

But on the other hand, i dont feel the need to max games out at 1440P so this is not a problem for me, so either two 780's or one 780ti
 
You need at a minimum to run comfortable frame rates, the power of 2 GTX 680s in SLI (however, ideally more than 2 GB per Card).

The R9 290x and 780 Ti should offer this. You would need to double them up to start getting "high" frame rates, IMO. 780 (or 2x780) are another option.

Was going to say might be interesting to wait till next month to see if the Nvidia GTX 790 & Nvidia titan black edition materialize or are even real :P, which might have an affect on prices. However I am sure you will be very happy with your beast of a card.
 
I find all these threads interesting as I'm toying with a move to 1440 on my haswell pc,currently have a windforce gtx780 which I only purchased after prices started dropping,have money to buy what I want within some reason,but can't in relation to current single gpu performance stomach idea of paying over 400 on a gpu.
I can't understand the 780ti in conjunction with 1440 gaming?
If an overclocked 780 is borderline for 1440,I can't help thinking the 780ti will be marginal at that rez aswell?
But two of either cards are gonna eat up maxed games locked to 60fps,less I'm getting that badly wrong....
So two gtx780's around 700 quid..or
Two gtx780ti's around 1200 quid will both eat up n spit out games at 1440p?
If so what's the point of the Ti less knowing a single card will max games for ages to come?
Just pondering like I say,if the780ti does max at 1440 and 60fps then I can understand,though in all honesty I'd not pay that much for a gpu personally.

There is a gap between the 780Ti and 780 but not much more than 10%-15% in games, so for some, that extra is worth it. For purely gaming, I would be happy with a pair of 780's in fairness but for a bit of benching as well, I would want a 780Ti, so dependent on your budget and gaming/benching being a priority, it could be the difference of a few hundred pounds.
