Hi all,

So i've just heard my dad had a minor scrape with our neighbours Mercedez estate the other week, front bumper and a bit of the wheel I think (i'm waiting for my dad to provide pictures etc) and the neighbour has just popped around saying his quote came from Mercedez for £900... now to me, that's ridiculous for, from what my dad has described as surface scratches, no dents or anything.

The car is leased, but does this mean our neighbour HAS to go through Mercedez? Can he not go through some garage, which i'm certain would be a lot cheaper then that!

Not sure whether to advise my parents to go through insurance either.

The car isn't owned by your neighbour, it's owned by the lease company. If they wish for their car to be repaired by the main dealer, then I can't see you have any real choice? It'll be a nearly new car covered by warrranty etc, even private owners won't be keen on not putting it through the main dealer just to suit the convenience of the person who drove into it!

Sounds like he took it to either a Mercedes main dealer or a Mercedes approved body shop.

Neither of those are going to be cheap.

Why should he look for a bargain sprayshop that will possibly do a poor job when it wasn't his fault that his car was damaged?

I would do the same if it was my Merc, it's the car owners choice where it goes, he is the innocent party after all

Why should the neighbour accept an inferior repair that could void the anti corrosion/paint warranty on a car that isn't owned by them? If your Dad doesn't like it, then he's going to have to go through insurance.

Oh, and it's Mercedes.

It doesn't have to go to a Merc dealer/bodyshop, but as said as it wasn't the chaps fault why shouldn't he be able to choose where?

What my folks have done with all their leases is just before they are up they've taken it to a local body place who have tidied up any of the things that would have been picked up on had it been sent back with them.
