This is just for a second opinion really.

Any suggestions for a 37-42" tv for the living room for a maximum of £300.

Only requirement is full HD and good picture/sound. Doesn't need to be smart or have anything fancy like wifi but wouldn't complain.

Seen a Toshiba 40L1353B but could do with some other opinions.

Anyone know why

is cheaper than

When the cheapest one has 3D, Freeview HD and some other better features? Am I missing something?

One is 100hz with Freeview HD. The other one is 50hz with only standard Freeview. It's probably older stock that they bought at a higher price, so it's hanging around and really needs more discounting to shift.

£300 for 37-42" = buy a second hand panasonic plasma

you could get a GT30 i imagine for that sort of cash, nothing brand new would come close to a second hand panny plasma all the stuff your looking at brand new for that size of TV will be absolutely crap in terms of picture quality.

you would be lucky to get a 32" that is decent for that price brand new but even then I would suggest spending around £400 for a 32"

Why people say this I'll never know. I just sold my 42" 3D Bush argos special and that had the same panel as a £1,300 LG.

What ever TV you pick go and see it for yourself and if you want 3D then get passive.

LG panels are crap and electronics make a huge difference.

e.g. my GT50 has the same panel as a: ST50, VT50, ST60 and GT60

It's considerably better than the ST50 and on par with the ST60 but a lot better than the ST60 for gaming.

The GT60 is better than all of them though.

So that is one panel used in 5 different tv's all with big differences in PQ because of differences in electronics, filters, etc.

It's like a car the engine (panel) is only one part of the picture you need to look at the chassis, exhaust, turbo, etc as well.

I see you're plasma fan :) I think at the end of the day it's down to the user and what they want.

I want 3D but I can't stand the shutter glasses so passive is the only way to go for me.
As soon as the 3840x2160 passive 3D becomes a bit cheaper I will get one of them.
