eBay - item listed with "for spares/repair"

From that description, I would say if it turns up and doesn't work, you don't have a leg to stand on.

For £5-10 it's probably worth a punt (depending which CPU), but I would buy with the expectation of it not working, and be pleasantly surprised if it did.

All posts on OCUK about e-bay make me too worried to actually use it. It always sounds like someone is trying to rip someone off.
It depends, I've been burned on a car I bought through eBay, bloke said it ran sweet as a nut but I discovered upon getting it home it was ****ed and he'd used the usual dirty tricks to make it look good - engine needed a full rebuild.

Thing is the body was totally rust free and I ended up selling the body shell for twice what I paid for the car and just binned the motor so it wasn't a wasted exercise.

it really doesn't matter which exact CPU it is, as it applies to any.

It's not AMD, so it wouldn't be the case of straightening the bent pins.

From my experience things listed under the "for parts and not working" category with a no returns policy cannot be returned. I have had a couple of people try but eBay sided with me.

ok, so the general consensus will be:

bidding low amount that could be written off like 15 quid.
expect nothing, but have hopes for pleasant surprise.
no returns at all, under no circumstances, once it's listed as spares and faulty.

I take it that's a yes then :p

That seller has some ... interesting... item locations :p

Pretty much, although the last part would depend on the description.

If you were to buy e.g. a phone, which was listed spares/repairs, but then stated in the auction something like "screen broken, but otherwise working fine", then obviously if it turned up and was bricked you would be entitled to a return/refund.

I've actually had similar in the past - bought a PSP which was listed as spares and repairs, but specified it was working other than not reading disks. When i got it, it turned out the wifi wasn't working either, and in the end ebay refunded me.
